TV and Web Series have been popular entertainment media since the 90s. The two following decades have given the audience multiple excellent series. However, the viewers often observe that some series begin with a bang and pull off a compelling plot. Yet, they fail to register a mark due to a weak endgame. Here we will look into ten broadly hated series finales.

1. ALF (1986-1990)

The audience loved ALF, especially the kids from the late 80s. However, the abrupt finale ‘Consider Me Gone’ was broadly criticized due to its lack of closure. ALF was one series that had successfully maintained a light, hearty tone right from the beginning. The episode in question was not supposed to be the ending. Although, it ultimately became the hated finale where the Alien Task Force captured ALF.

2. Roseanne (1988-1997)

Roseanne‘ successfully ran as a light-hearted sitcom for all of its nine seasons. However, the last episode, ‘Into that Good Night,’ stands among the most hated series finales in sitcom history. The audience had just snuggled into their comfort zone with things looking up for the Connors. The very idea that Roseanne concocted it all majorly played down the series’ comedy during the ending.

3. Seinfeld (1989-1998)

Seinfeld‘ was never the sharpest tool in the shed. The close-to-home story compared with down-to-earth characters widely popularized the show among the audience. The producers decided to crank up the thrill in the final episode, ‘The Finale,’ and it back-fired. The characters’ imprisonment was a shocking blow and placed Seinfeld’s ending among widely hated series finales of the day.

4. The Sopranos (1999-2007)

The fans were of different minds when it came to ‘The Sopranos‘ finale ‘Made in America’. The producers were widely criticized and mocked for the dark, confusing directives in the episode. Tony fans hated the anticlimactic ending, but a general overview leaves room for speculation.

5. Two and A Half Men (2003-2015)

‘Two and A Half Men’ was among the first modern sitcoms to incorporate dark comedy. The finale ‘Of Course He’s Dead’ stands proof of that very fact. The conclusive episode is widely hated but still regarded as a cinematic masterpiece by Chuck Lore. Charlie’s sudden appearance and death under a piano are hilarious and heartbreaking.

6. Lost (2004-2010)

‘Lost’ received worldwide accolades for its emotionally poignant storyline and dynamic screenplay. However, fans considered not only the last episode but the entire sixth season as a blot. The audience regarded the ‘Lost’ finale ‘The End’ as emotional jargon. The attack went on to be among the most broadly hated series finales in showbiz history. However, a careful examination has resulted in the belief that it just delivered closure to the many mysteries and plot-twists.

7. How I Met Your Mother (2005-2014)

The ending of ‘How I Met Your Mother’ didn’t feature a bad storyline, just rushed conclusions. The haphazard conduction of the Mother’s death and Robin & Barney’s marriage appeared to be disorganized, only to reach the ending. However, the finale ‘Last Forever’ contained multiple moving scenes- a bit more polishing would have made it into an excellent conclusion.

8. Dexter (2006-2013)

The popularity of ‘Dexter’ declined along with the series’s quality & build exponentially from its start to its end. The end season of ‘Dexter’ is one of the most hated series finales in history. However, over time, tastes have changed, and maybe Dexter’s ending ‘Remember the Monsters?’ will get a different response now.

9. Sherlock (2010-2017)

Benedict Cumberbatch’s character inspired by Conan Doyle’s legendary detective was stellar. However, the last episode, ‘The Final Problem,’ was widely criticized by the audience and critics alike. Creator Moffat loosely winded the entire fourth season around a somewhat drastic plot. The painstakingly straightforward ending to a stellar series did not sit well with the fans.

10. Game of Thrones (2011-2019)

Game of Thrones‘ deserved to be in the ‘epic’ category, if not for its 8th season. George R.R. Martin’s books featured an excellent and layered ending. As a result, it wasn’t easy to formulate a lucid screen adaptation. So, the result was somewhat sloppy. The finale ‘The Iron Throne’ received a lot of hype but failed to deliver on the expected standards.
