Loki is an American TV series created by Michael Waldron for the streaming service Disney+, adapted from Marvel Comics and the role of the same name. It uses the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as the background and has the same continuity as the series of movies. It takes place after the events of the Avengers: Endgame (2019) movie, in which another version of Loki creates a new timeline. Loki was produced by Marvel Studios, Waldron served as the lead screenwriter, and Kate Herron directed the first season. Tom Hiddleston replays the role of Loki in the film series, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, Tara Strong, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, and Sasha Lane also starred. As of September 2018, Marvel Studios is developing a limited series for Disney+, focusing on small characters in MCU movies. In November 2018, the series with Hiddleston as Loki was confirmed. Waldron got hired in February 2019 and Herron was hired in August. Filming began in Atlanta, Georgia in January 2020, but was suspended in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production resumed in September and was completed in December. “Loki” premiered on June 9, 2021, with a total of six episodes. It is part of the fourth phase of the MCU.
