The BBC show, Peaky Blinders, managed to draw a huge fan base. With such a great storyline and a narration over the gangster drama, it is quite obvious that the viewers will ignore many of its glowing flaws. Ever since the season premiered, Peaky Blinders’ explosive storyline left no opportunity to entertain the fans. While it glorifies the life of the Shelby family, there were quite a few loopholes that most of us ignored vividly. Here are five out of them –
It is quite a challenge to make the audience believe that the cast has used the guns before as well. Now since Peaky Blinders is a violent narration, it has had to utilize the gunplay very carefully. But apparently, the scenario became quite funny during the action scene of Luca Changretta. Instead of increasing the dramatic emotion, it pulled the fans out of the zone entirely.
The pace of a storyline depends upon the narration. While the slower pace has worked for projects like Breaking Bad, it wasn’t a right fit for a series like Peaky Blinders. Moreover, there was a lot of smoking and walking slow-motion shots that weren’t really necessary at points. With time, the series has structured its episodes in such a way that the audiences are forced to check their clock again and again.
Peaky Blinders season 1 still remains fans’ favorite because every other season was quite a clone to the former. The later seasons introduced a new antagonist for Blinders to face and that is how the entire season went down the line, following the same predictable structure. With that being said, while the formula worked pretty well for Peaky Blinders, it didn’t show up as daring but a weird approach.
While the Shelby family was not real, Peaky Blinders were there in real during the early 20th century. They never actually received the level of influence, status, and wealth shown in the series. Hence, while some parts of Peaky Blinders were kind of historically accurate, others, or say the majority of it failed to align any similarity. This comes under the act of cinematography freedom of cinematography liberties where the makers draft the stories more fictionally instead of making them align right with the actual history.
Unused Female Characters
There were many strong female characters in Peaky Blinders. It included Ada, Grace, and Polly. But they never really seemed to live a life as per their strength. While they appeared to be quite strong as a personality in the pilot season, they failed to maintain the initial appearance throughout the other four seasons. With that said, Grace discarded post her demise during Tommy’s character development. Even Ada was made to get discarded so much that she remained a shadow for the rest of the show’s run.
