Its really hard to directly portray the comic character into real life movies. Sometimes, the directors and the writers make decision to alter the characters to make them look more watchable and realistic on the big screen. However, this is a gamble and it doesn’t earn good result everytime.
Marvel comic world is expansive and it is really difficult for the directors to portray the characters on screen. The casting team of MCU have admitted that they search through hundred of actors before finding the perfect match. I mean yes. That’s why we got a perfect Iron Man.
So, now lets have a look at the characters who MCU have portrayed just perfectly like the comics.
1. CHRIS HEMSWORTH AS THOR
With the facial features and the God Like deep voice and accent, Hemsworth is just the perfect Thor. The hairs, the physique and the charm everything is just spot on.
Fun fact:- Chris’ brother Liam Hemsworth auditioned for the role of Thor too. And he was almost finalized before Chris walked in and stole the show.
2. BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH AS DOCTOR STRANGE
It was actually strange to hear that Benedict is going to be Doctor Strange. But when he made his appearance, he looked like a doppleganger of his comic counterpart. From the costume, to the hairstyle (the greyish lines on the sides) to the cloak and just everything was top notch. And Benedict’s acting just made it more perfect.
Fun fact:- Scott Derrickson, the director told Vanity Fair
“I thought Benedict was perfect as Doctor Strange, because [he] has the combination of high education and high intelligence.”
3. ROBERT DOWNEY JR AS TONY STARK
RDJ just doesn’t portray the character of Tony Stark, he is Tony Stark. And he is “The Godfather” of the MCU.
It was a big risk for MCU to kicking off things with Iron Man. A character which was never prominent in the comics.
But RDJ just nailed the role with his acting.
The suit is kind of same. Plus, the famous beard of RDJ kind of matched with that of comics’ Tony stark’s.
4. TOM HIDDLESTON AS LOKI
You talking of supervillains? The God of Mischief is surely at the top of it. Thanks to Tom Hiddleston mischievous expressions, body language and wonderful acting that we got a better Loki on the big screen.
And the director have kind of just copied the character’s look from the comics. And we are so glad that they did.
5. SAMUEL L. JACKSON AS NICK FURY
Jackson wasn’t cast as Nick Fury. Nick Fury was created as Samuel L. Jackson. Before MCU came into picture, comic book write redrew his version of Nick Fury as Samuel L. Jackson. Funny but true.
Nick Fury is the coolest and the most badass hero in the marvel comic world. And Samuel L Jackson is the same in Hollywood.
Later on, when Miller came face to face with Jackson, he apologized for using his likeliness. Jackson replied in a very Samuel L. Jackson way
“Thanks for the nine picture deal Miller!”
Okay we are not over here. Captain America, Ant Man, War Machine too were portrayed perfectly by the MCU. Now we are about to see the characters who look nothing like their comic counterparts.
1. DANIEL BRUHL AS ZEMO
Zemo was a supervillain. The purple, black and gold faceless uniform was what defined him in the comics. However, Civil War completely changed the character when they brought Daniel Bruhl in a regular attire.
Even if we forget it for a moment, the character timeline was completely different too. Was MCU trying to humanize their comics supervillains?
2. ELIZABETH OLSEN AS SCARLET WITCH
Even though MCU maintained the red tone of the Witch, they completely modified the traiditonal costume. Olsen was actually uncomfortable with the traditional Scarlet Witch costume and came up with her own idea for the same. And she said that she liked it better.
3. MICHAEL B. JORDON AS KILLMONGER
The most fantastic addition to the Black Panther crew was Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger. Even though he looked nothing like the comics, he nailed the role.
In the comics, Killmonger is insanely massive who cannot be put into the big screen without CGI. So instead of risking the character, MCU completely changed it and gave us a much much better one.
