The Spider-Man franchise has been a staple of superhero cinema with many actors playing the titular superhero. First, Sam Raimi cast Tobey Maguire in 2002’s Spider-Man who then reprised his role in 2004’s Spider-Man 2, and 2007’s Spider-Man 3 as well. The Amazing Spider-Man franchise brought us Andrew Garfield as the iconic Peter Parker in 2012 and 2014 respectively. But the franchise didn’t fare well commercially and Sony Pictures decided to reboot their series with a younger incarnation of the character played by Tom Holland. However, these are the 5 reasons why Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man is still the best –

He Is Genuinely Dorkey

Peter Parker is cool, but he’s a dork too. The best actors who have played Peter only bring certain aspects of the character out, and although Andrew Garfield is hot, he doesn’t capture that awkward nerdiness that Tobey Maguire depicts on screen. Tom Holland isn’t all that believable as a high school dork either – maybe if he had actually gone to a regular public school for long enough – nevertheless his performance didn’t bore me as Garfield’s did!

He Accepted His Mistakes

Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man never got to accept the fact that he was unable to save his love interest, Gwen Stacy, and didn’t do anything in his power to prevent her death. It’s a shame this happened because we would have very much liked to see him face up to the difficult decision that he made and what it led to. The good news is that Tom Holland has confronted just one of his own personal shortcomings: not being Tony Stark for a day, which isn’t really his fault but sure is hard to live with knowing that it could have cost innocent people their lives.

On the other hand, Tobey Maguire fell short on some occasions as well as Peter Parker. However, he opted for doing some soul-searching where he went back home and confronted Aunt May that he is the one who catalyzed Uncle Ben’s death.

He Kept Struggling With His Powers

In Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, Peter Parker begins to exhibit physical and psychological responses from the spider bite. He loses his powers as his body mutates further, becoming less stable than before. Unable to fully enjoy these newfound powers, as he is aware of their possible negative effects on him in the long run, he realizes that only with great power comes great responsibility.

Tobey’s Spider-Man Faced Consequences Based On His Actions

Throughout the Spider-Man movies, Tom Holland’s character doesn’t always face consequences for bad decisions. Whereas Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker often did. This taught him to be responsible and grow up fast. So not only is the Spidey managed to save the day, but he also has people to back him up.

His Relationship With Uncle Ben Was The Closest In The Franchise

Uncle Ben is one of the most important characters in Spider-Man’s history. He had a close relationship with all three actors who played the young Peter Parker – Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and most recently Tom Holland. However, it was Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker who had the closest relationship with him. Perhaps that is one of the major angles that helped the franchise and character get positioned deeper inside the viewers’ hearts.
