Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, a new feature film released in 2021, transports audiences back to the universe of G.I. Joe. We’ll get to explore the popular location even more in 2022, albeit the next adventure won’t be on the big screen. Hasbro will follow up Snake Eyes with a whole new G.I. Joe animated series, which will premiere next year. This is undoubtedly great news for anyone who grew up watching the original animation. Hisstank, a well-known source of G.I. Joe news, was recently at Licensing Con Brazil and spoke with Marcelo Masotti, Hasbro Brazil’s head of licensing. Masotti stated during the presentation that a new animated series would debut next year, followed by a second season in 2023. The new series’ network or streaming provider was not announced, but Hasbro did display a brief clip featuring Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow, indicating that development is well along. Many of the Joe characters that fans have grown to adore will most likely appear in this series.

The property has a large cast of characters, and an animated style will allow for more engagement across the board. The Snake Eyes feature picture, on the other hand, takes a far more restrained approach. The film focuses on the beginnings of Snake Eyes, one of the most recognizable characters in the G.I. Joe universe. Storm Shadow, Scarlett, and the Baroness are the only other significant Joe characters confirmed to appear in the film. Snake Eyes stars Henry Golding as the eponymous character, with Andrew Koji as his adoptive brother-turned-rival, Storm Shadow. Fans are hopeful that the presence of Samara Weaving and Ursula Corbero as Scarlett and the Baroness will pave the way for further G.I. Joe ventures in the future. Robert Schwentke directed Snake Eyes, which was written by Evan Spiliotpoulos.
