Tom Holland says that the MCU threequel will connect three Spider-Man movie generations

Tom Holland, the actor of Spider-Man: No Way Home, has stated that the Marvel Cinematic Universe threequel would unite three Spider-Man film generations. Alfred Molina’s Doctor Otto “Ock” Octavius from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, as well as Jamie Foxx’s Electro from Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, will return in the newest episode of the webslinger franchise. In addition to Benedict Cumberbatch reprising his role as Doctor Strange, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Marisa Tomei, J.B. Smoove, and Benedict Wong will star. After his secret identity is revealed in the post-credits of Spider-Man: Far From Home by the now-dead Mysterio, Holland’s Peter Parker will resort to Doctor Strange for a spell to erase everyone’s memories of his double existence as the eponymous hero in Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, the spell fails and the portals to the multiverse open, requiring Parker to join forces with the Sorcerer Supreme to battle adversaries from various worlds. With the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home just around the horizon, the cast of the film has remained tight-lipped about the film’s secrets, though they are prepared to provide plenty of hints.

Tom Holland talks Spider-Man: No Way Home: “It’s three generations coming together”

As the picture prepares for release next month, Holland spoke with Total Film about Spider-Man: No Way Home. Holland hailed the movie’s multiverse premise and cast as “fantastic” and said the threequel would unite all three Spider-Man movie eras. See what Holland had to say about it below:

“It means a lot to me. The first time you see Doc and the rest of the characters that come back, it’s so exciting – and it’s such a huge moment in cinematic history. It’s three generations coming together.”

Given Holland’s famed background as a source of MCU leaks, the young actor has been extra cautious with his remarks for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Given the debuts of Molina’s Doc Ock and Foxx’s Electro into the MCU, his recent suggestion that the threequel would connect three Spider-Man movie eras may not come as a surprise. However, it is certain to fuel fans’ suspicions that past Spider-Men Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield may return to aid and face their former opponents. With only one teaser and one poster for Spider-Man: No Way Home released, Marvel Studios and Sony are trying their best to keep the limitless secrets of the first multiverse film in Phase Four of the MCU under wraps. Aside from the previous Spider-Men, speculation and suspicions abound that the film will also include the return of Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, a villain who has been hinted at in the trailer but no indication of which incarnation, and Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock from Netflix’s Daredevil. When Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse reaches cinemas on December 17, only time will tell how the film finally pulls the three Spider-Man movie generations and universes together.
