Guardians of the galaxy took us all with surprise with its success in 2014 and well, we should credit its Director James Gunn for its success. After Kevin Feige’s announcement regarding Gunn’s greater role in the next phase of MCU, Gunn found himself fired following offensive jokes and comments he made about pedophilia and rape.

This just happened and it’s too soon to imagine how much will that affect the MCU but there are numerous in which his demise from the franchise can affect MCU.

Gunn announced in 2017 that all three Guardians of the Galaxy movies were designed to amalgamate one story together and that the third film will mark the beginning of a new story. The first draft of the film was complete and it was supposed to explore further into the cosmic realm.

We don’t know yet if Marvel would still keep the draft by Gunn and even if Marvel sticks with Gunn’a idea of the trilogy, the added new ideas will obviously take us all away from the original vision that Gunn had for the franchise. We’re sure Marvel will do their best to leave no flaws behind and will make an attempt to avoid any damage to the film. Since Gunn was seen as Marvel’s next big think tank, his departure will certainly result the next phase of Marvel.

A new director can result in a different style which can be different from the style Gunn used particularly in his earlier films and the fans are already believing that the third film will not be able to live up to the expectations and standards set by the first two films. A poor performance can result in Guardians having a lesser role in MCU’s next phase.

Okay for all those who are thinking, what’s next for Gunn, well he’s undoubtedly talented and we might see him tying up with DC in future, given that the studio is ready to overlook his mistakes. Even Sony canceled an appearance in SDCC which had to feature a project from Gunn so its speculated that his irrational comments could affect his career beyond Disney and Marvel.

There’s a possibility that he might end up with Warner Bros. as the studio is still lingering to establish themselves and correct its mistakes. If this happens, Gunn wouldn’t be the first Marvel director to shift to DC. Earlier, Joss Whedon (Avengers and Age of Ultron) moved to DC. Gunn even revealed earlier this year that DC has offered him to direct a film in DCEU. Well, whatever the speculations might be, we hope to see him back in business soon.
