South Korean actor Lee Jung-Jae made history by becoming the first Asian to win Outstanding Lead Actor at the 2022 Emmy Awards for his role as Seong Gi-hun or Player 456 in Netflix’s Squid Game. Along with the actor, director Hwang Dong-hyuk of the drama series also won the award for Outstanding Director for a Drama Series. This victory gave them a remarkable haul of six awards out of a total of 14 nominations.

Both Lee Jung-Jae and Squid Game director Hwang Dong Hyuk thanked the Korean and international audiences for watching the series in their respective speeches, and Hwang confirmed that they will be returning for the second season.

Even though the event was a huge success for the Asian community, some people took to social media to talk about the actor’s violent past. A post that was made on Instiz, a social media platform in Korea, disclosed the actor’s many criminal offenses that occurred during his 20s and 30s. Among these were allegations of homophobia, assaults involving women, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

When it was announced that the actor would be starring in an upcoming Star Wars series called The Acolyte, screenshots of the reports started appearing on Twitter.

According to the post, Lee was involved in four different assault cases in the early 2000s, all of which involved alcohol abuse, and two of those cases involved Lee injuring women.

In an interview with Vogue Korea in 2013, the actor allegedly admitted that  “Some time ago, I was forced to watch a dear friend pass on to a better place. I can still hear myself saying to him, “Stop being gay.” Hasn’t it been enough? “But it wasn’t an easy task to get rid of him.

On the other hand, there are a large number of individuals who spoke up in the actor’s defense. They debated topics such as how much a person could change in twenty years and whether or not a certain individual was stirring up controversy due to the fact that he had earned a lead role in a major Star Wars film.

Now people are debating about what is right and what is not, Though even Twitter users have responded to news of the actor’s criminal history in a variety of ways, with some expressing regret for his actions while others condemning him for his behavior.

But apart from all this, his management has not commented on the recent revelations regarding Lee’s history of criminal activity at this time.
