The latest episode of Arrow, titled “The Longbow Hunters” reveal that Oliver’s son William is queer. This came up during a conversation with Roy, where William mentioned his ex-boyfriend while discussing the circumstances that led him back to Lian Yu.
When asked by Roy if Oliver and Felicity just left him, William replied, “Pretty much. And my ex-boyfriend wonders why I have commitment issues.”
“He was a real jerk,” he added.
Arrow isn’t new to queer representation. Earlier in the second season, Arrow introduced a bisexual Black Canary, who had dated both Oliver Queen and Nyssa Al Ghul. The series even introduced Curtis Holt aka Mister Terrific who was happily married to Paul.
William’s statements here carry some heavy implications. We know that Oliver and Felicity went away from his life at an early age, however, it’s unclear if he’s referring to the moment we saw in the premiere of the season.
Either way, the future looks uncertain for Felicity and Oliver, indicating that they may never get their happy ending.
Arrow Season Seven airs Monday at 8 PM on the CW.
