Last week was nothing short of a roller coaster ride for DC fans, as a report by THR, last Wednesday indicated that Henry Cavill was leaving the DCEU post a breakdown with the Warner Bros. regarding a cameo in the upcoming Shazam. This led to all sorts of suggestions by fans and experts as to who should don the cape next.

Among those suggestions is Arrow star Colton Hayes’ who took to Twitter calling for a different diversity in the role than what might have been considered previously.

“Wouldn’t it be really incredible to see an out gay actor cast as Superman? @MattBomer has my vote!” Haynes wrote.

Now, it’s important to understand that Colton didn’t actually say that he wanted to see Superman as a gay character but just the idea that an openly gay actor, Bomer, playing the role of Superman who is the perfect embodiment masculinity will be absolutely groundbreaking. Bomer does resemble Cavill a lot and is also a brilliant actor with a spot-on Clark Kent look.

However, it’s still very early to campaign Bomer or anyone else for the role, as there hasn’t been any official confirmation or announcement that Cavill’s time as Superman is over now. Even Cavill’s manager Danny Garcia tweeted on Twitter indicating that Cavill is still Superman.

“Be peaceful, the cape is still in his closet,” Garcia wrote. “[Warner Bros. Pictures] has been and continues to be our partners as they evolve the DC Universe. Anticipate a WB statement later today.”
