Austin Butler’s viral Elvis Presley accent had Vanessa Hudgens in tears. The actress responded to an Instagram post from January 19 that made fun of Butler’s vocal shift after he played Presley in the 2022 biopic, Elvis.
Ryan Scott posted a picture of a Page Six article on Butler’s viral cadence on Instagram on Thursday. Scott captioned the picture, “He attended the Lady Gaga school of Oscar campaign acting,” grabbing Hudgens’ eye, while many users thought it was hilarious.
Vanessa Hudgens Responds to Ex’s Viral ‘Elvis’ Accent
Vanessa Hudgens, who formally ended her relationship with Butler in January 2020 after several years of dating, responded in the post’s comments, “Crying.” This is the first time Hudgens has mentioned her ex since the split.
In a 2019 episode of Live with Kelly and Ryan, Hudgens revealed,
“We were riding along in a car and listening to Christmas music when this Elvis Christmas song came on. He had only recently darkened his hair. He’s naturally blond, and while I was watching him sing along, I said, Babe, you need to play Elvis.”
Although Butler has moved on with his life, Hudgens still feels a part of her misses the bond they shared while they were together.
Why Does Austin Butler Still Speak Like Elvis?
The Dead Don’t Die actor won his first Golden Globe in 2023 for Best Actor in a Drama category, which recognized his milestone achievement as the lead character and King of Rock and Roll in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis. It was difficult not to notice Butler’s Southern drawl while he gave a heartfelt acceptance speech thanking his family, co-stars, and Elvis Presley.
During the 2023 Golden Globes backstage ceremony on January 10, the actor addressed the rumor and spoke with the press about his connection with the King. “I don’t think I still sound like him, but given how frequently I hear it, I guess I do. That was all I focused on for three years. I’m certain that I will always be connected to him because of the pieces of him that are in my DNA.”
Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler dated for nearly nine years before splitting up in 2020. Butler has since moved on with model Kaia Gerber, who appeared ecstatic when he won the 2023 Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of the “Hound Dog” singer, and the beau celebrated this win with a smooch. Meanwhile, Hudgens has been romantically involved with MLB star Cole Tucker.
