Avengers: Infinity War saw the deaths of MCU’s most beloved superheroes at the hands of Thanos, leaving all Marvel fans to wonder how will all these heroes come back to life. However, the more recently released Ant-Man & The Wasp teased the concept of Time Travel within the MCU. Ant-Man’s director Peyton Reed also confirmed confirmed its ties to Marvel’s upcoming Avengers 4.

In the sequel to Ant-Man, we see Scott Lang shrinking down to explore the Quantum Realm though he’s warned to avoid time vortexes. This isn’t really elborated in the film but it does hint at the fact that time travel is possible in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Based on the science that we’ve set up in the first movie and this one, I won’t rule out the possibility,” Reed shared with The Huffington Post. “Because, again, we are dealing with a time vortex. That could happen.” However, Peyton didn’t reveal much and ended with, “I have to be careful here, as you well know.”

The ending of Infinity War left all the fans in shock as Thanos succeeded in fulfilling his dream of attaining all Infinity Stones and wiping out half of the universe’s population. Now many of these ‘dead’ characters like Spider-Man, Black Panther and many more still have to appear in multiple MCU films in the future and this led to various fan theories about how exactly will they come to life.

One of these theories suggest at time travel where the remaining Avengers will have to travel back in time to alter the present. We have already spotted actors in the set photos of Avengers 4 resembling their appearance in The Avengers (2012), so for now, the time travel theory does seem like a strong possibility.

Moreover, we have seen Tony displaying a technology in Captain America: Civil War that allows him to re-live moments from his past though we don’t really get to see enough utilization of the tech in the film. It might be possible that this device gets used by Tony in Avengers 4 to look for more clues. After this he can travel to the Quantum Realm to find a time vortex before he finally goes back in time to stop the Mad Titan.

Avengers 4 will release on May 3, 2019.
