A description on Avengers 4 merchandise that leaked on Thursday reveals a threat even greater than Josh Brolin’s Thanos.

The Asgardian Thor wields the mighty Stormbreaker in his battle against new foes. Rocket teams up with a new crew to guard the galaxy from an even greater threat.

Okay, so Rocket’s new crew could be The Avengers, who Rocket being the last Guardians survivor joins after the rest of the team got annihilated by the hands of Thanos in Infinity War.

Earlier, Rocket and Thor had travelled across the Stars to forge the Stormbreaker, which nearly killed Thanos towards the end of the film. If the rumours of Avengers 4 being subtitled as Annihilation are true, Marvel could be using the comic-book crossover that saw Annihilus, the ruler of Negative Zone in the film.

Annihilus is typically a Fantastic Four villain and may have his rights tied up at 20th Century Fox, who currently holds the rights of Galactus, and will continue doing so until the Disney-Fox merger is complete.

Annihilus could be wholly owned by Fox or it may exist in the same area of co-ownership as Skrulls, the shape-shifting aliens, who are usually seen as Fantastic Four villains but are set to appear in MCU’s Captain Marvel.

But as explained by James Gunn earlier, Disney-owned Marvel enjoys rights on specific Skrulls, and there are many characters in the race that are prohibited from using by Marvel as their rights belong to Fox. The same applies to Watchers, which were seen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but the most famous Watcher, Uatu went unseen or unnamed as his rights belong to Fox.

It’s possible that Disney and Fox could’ve made a to allow Disney’s Marvel to use Annihilus in Avengers 4. However, it’s likely that Marvel could substitute Annihilus with characters they actually control, as they’ve done with Quantum Realm, a creation that’s a substitute to the Microverse, whose rights are beyond Marvel’s reach for now.
