MCUs Avengers: Endgame broke the box office record with its release within a week. Avengers is known for breaking records at the box office. Avengers: Infinity War is also the highest-grossing film breaking vital records. But a recently released Disney live-action movie just surpassed Avengers: Endgame setting the bar high up. Aladdin, which was released this year on 24 May 2019, has broken the record since it’s release.
Aladdin Breaks Record
Even though Avengers: Endgame is the highest-grossing film of all time, Aladdin manages to surpass the movie by breaking a record. Avengers: Endgame set a record with its release on April 2019 and re-release in June 2019, making it the longest showing film. But with Aladdin still being shown in the theatres breaking the record of the longest showing film of 2019. Since the release of the movie on 24 May 2019, Aladdin has now run for 143 days. It is still being shown across 105 theatres across the country. Though Aladdin’s box office receipts only amounted up to $1.05 bn against Avengers $ 2.79 bn, a record broken is still a record broken.
Producer Dan Lin Comments
Aladdin Producer Dan Lin reveals that everyone was heaving a sigh of relief after Will Smith signed the project. Lin says, “We’re just so fortunate we get Will. Will Smith’s first audition fit him perfectly for the role of Genie. I think Jaden Smith did encourage his father to take up the role. The role did have high expectations requiring singing, dancing, and comedic deliveries. Will, as an actor, possesses such skills that fit in with the role of Genie. I think that’s the number one overarching theme that everyone brought the movie. They made this movie by bringing their personality to it.”
The producer added, “And so Will Smith if you look closely at the Genie, is influenced by what he did so well in Hitch and what he did so well with Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. This is a hip hop Genie, and so it’s peculiar to Will. No other actor could have done this the way he did, in the same way, no other actor could have done the Genie the way Robin Williams did. They are so iconic, and so the way Will interpreted the Genie was to make an iconic character that only he can play that is very true to himself. And that’s what excited us and allowed us to differentiate and stand out from the previous Aladdin movie.”
