Black Mask To Be The Villain In DC’s Birds Of Prey?

Get ready to witness a whole new corner of DC Comics on big screen as the Birds of Prey is set to bring in Black Mask as the villain in the film. This report came via The Wrap which states that the Black Mask will be making his big screen debut as a villain in Birds of Prey.

Black Mask is also known as Roman Sionis and is a drug kingpin in Gotham City, who was a childhood friend to Bruce Wayne. Sionis murdered his parents and inherited their fortune. He ultimately ruined his family’s business of cosmetics and eventually got struck by lightning, an event that he sees as his “Rebirth”. He used his father’s casket to make himself a black mask and quickly rose on to become a crime boss in Gotham.

It’s still unclear if we’ll get a proper story arc of the character in the film. Black Mask was earlier speculated to be a part of David Ayer’s Gotham City Sirens. Even Justice League dropped an Easter egg referencing Sionis’ Cosmetics Company, which left DC fans to wonder if and when Black Mask will make his onscreen debut in DCEU.

he character has earlier appeared in the first two seasons of Gotham (which was surprisingly portrayed by Suicide Squad 2 co-writer Todd Stashwick). Black Mask doesn’t have any relationship with Birds Of Prey and has had only crossed paths with Batgirl and Huntress on a couple of small occasions.

Birds of Prey will feature Black Canary, Huntress and Cassandra Cain, as all of these characters will team up with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. The film will be directed by Cathy Yan and produced by Robbie alongside Sue Kroll and Bryan Unkeless. The film is speculated to begin its filming in 2019.
