The tragic demise of Black Panther actor, Chadwick Boseman left the world stunned. It was so sudden and hit us out of nowhere. Everyone mourned the loss of a generous human being. He left some big shoes to fill in. But now that Marvel has taken their time to grieve, they’ve made the right choice to move forward. Instead of recasting T’Challa, they have decided to take a different approach. In the past few days, several new plot details have been revealed about Black Panther 2. Here’s every one of those:

No T’Challa

Apparently, Marvel has decided to rest the character of T’Challa. Kevin Feige recently spoke to Deadline, and here’s what he had to say:

“So much of the comics and that first movie is the world of Wakanda. Wakanda is a place to further explore with characters and different subcultures. This was always and initially the primary focus of the next story. We’re not going to have a CG Chadwick and we’re not recasting T’Challa. Ryan Coogler is working very hard right now on the script with all the respect and love and genius that he has, which gives us great solace, so it was always about furthering the mythology and the inspiration of Wakanda. There’s also the task of honoring and respecting the ongoing learnings and teachings from Chad as well.”

Ryan Coogler certainly has a big challenge ahead of him. But the rest of the plot details do suggest that he’d be able to come up with a worthy sequel in spite of T’Challa’s absence. Following Kevin Feige’s statement came an exclusive report from FandomWire. They were the ones who originally broke the news about Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s appearance in Homecoming 3. And now, their sources claim that the opening of Black Panther II will feature Boseman’s Black Panther in his suit. This scene will be a respectful tribute to the late actor, before T’Challa’s final send-off. “The specifics of that scene are still being decided on. But T’Challa will pass on.”

Shuri

With T’Challa gone, FandomWire states that many characters will fight for the throne. But apparently, Shuri will be the one to prevail. She’d become the successor of her brother. It’d be interesting to see how she would take on the Black Panther moniker without the Heart-Shaped Herb. The new MCU canon book called “The Wakanda Files: A Technological Exploration of the Avengers and Beyond” revealed that she was trying to create the herb manually, by using Vibranium as a stabilizing agent. She was also looking into several Super Soldier experiments of the past and found Iron Man 3’s Extremis to be quite promising. So, she might come up with a new form of the Heart-Shaped Herb in Black Panther II.

Doctor Doom

Last year, Charles Murphy of Murphy’s Multiverse reported on the rumor of Doctor Doom’s appearance in Black Panther II. This piece of intel completely shocked everyone as Namor was the villain that was originally intended. But apparently, our friends at FandomeWire have reported that Murphy’s intel was rock solid. Their sources have confirmed that Doctor Doom will appear in a “smaller role as the overall bad guy pulling the strings. And, he won’t just step in as Victor Von Doom, but we’d get to see him in the full Doctor Doom attire! Now, that’d be lovely, don’t you think?

Erik Killmonger

The last time saw Erik “Killmonger” Stevens, he pulled the spear out of his chest and seemingly died. But apparently, FandomWire has come up with another exclusive report, which suggests that Michael B. Jordan will return in the sequel. Although, they couldn’t confirm the size of his role in the film. So, it’d be interesting to see how Jordan’s Killmonger makes his comeback.

It was his final wish to not be chained up. He preferred death instead of bondage. So, we all believed that T’Challa would have respected his final wish. But it seems that T’Challa wanted to give his cousin a second chance. He must have thought that Erik could redeem himself. So, he could have healed him, just like he originally offered. This bit is pure speculation on our part. Let’s see if it comes true.

Namor

Doctor Doom has been revealed to have a smaller role in the film. So, it seems that someone else will be the main antagonist. Iron Man 2 first teased the presence of Atlantis. Then Avengers: Endgame teased a rift between Wakanda and Atlantis with its underwater Earthquakes. So, the writing was always on the wall for Namor’s arrival in the next Black Panther movie. And now, FandomWire has confirmed that “deep-sea Wakandan divers will uncover the lost city of Atlantis.” A “big portion of the film will be underwater” as an all-out war will break out between Atlantis and Wakanda. We’re presuming that Nakia, Okoye, Shuri (Black Panther), Erik, and even M’Baku might team up to take on Namor and the Atlantean forces.

This war will be staged by Doctor Doom, who would be manipulating Namor and Atlantis against Wakanda. Ultimately, Namor might get to do a bit of course correction. He could turn into one of MCU’s good guys down the road. But, it’s unclear as to why Doom will be pulling off a Lex Luthor move here. We believe that his endgame could be tied to the dominance of Latveria. Atlantis and Wakanda could wipe each other out, and Latveria could become the most powerful nation in the MCU.

All this certainly makes a compelling narrative for Black Panther II. Hopefully, these plot details will come true when the film arrives on July 8, 2022.
