Britney Spears Kisses Madonna at Lavish Wedding To Recreate The Iconic VMAs Kiss After 19 Years
An ex-husband crashing the ceremony and almost ruining the day is not the only headline-worthy event from Britney Spears’ Thursday wedding. The day also saw the recreation of one of American Pop culture and TV history’s most shocking and iconic moment, the Britney-Madonna kiss performance at the 2003 VMAs.
Britney Spears: not your classic blushing bride
Britney Spears got married to Sam Asghari, in a beautiful wedding, after dating each other for about 5 years. The quirky bride was a sight to behold in the ravishing red Versace dress. But unlike other brides, she couldn’t keep her smooches for the “Now you may kiss the bride” moment. The 40 years old ‘Make me…’ singer was captured locking lips at the reception with Madonna, 63, recreating the iconic 2003 VMAs moment 19 years later.
Madonna had donned a colorful gown for the ceremony. The blondies closed their eyes as they shared the brief albeit hot kiss.
We’re “just friends”, in need and indeed
The original infamous and controversial moment, though still shocking to the ones who witnessed it, brought the Princess of Pop and Queen of Pop quite close to each other as friends. Reports say that the ‘Material Girl’ singer “has always had a soft spot” for Spears and even “offered to help in any way” as she fought long and hard to end her controversial conservatorship.
Madonna’s appearance at Spears’ fairy-tale wedding to Asghari, 28, marked their first public reunion since the legal arrangement was terminated in November 2021.
Other celebrities who graced the occasion with their presence were Paris Hilton, Drew Barrymore, Selena Gomez and Donatella Versace, the latter of whom designed Spears’ gown as well.

Angry exes and loving smooches
The 2003 VMAs moment was not iconic only because of the two smooching women, but also because of the reactions that ensued. The performance was by a trio: Spears, Madonna and Christina Aguilera, and after locking lips with Spears, Madonna had turned to Aguilera and shared a moment with her too, but the cameras couldn’t capture that because they were more focussed on ‘Mirrors’ singer, Justin Timberlake, whom Britney had just split up with.
Funny how there is always a pissed-off ex whenever the pop divas kiss. Be it the one silently sitting and enduring in the audience, or the one creating a ruckus on her wedding day.
