However, season 8 takes a serious turn as it talks about George Floyd’s murder which was a real tragedy. Following this, Detective Rosa Diaz leaves the force to become a private investigator. Her main drive is to tackle the police brutality that goes on all around New York. The final season talks a lot about the faulty system that protects officers who are guilty and capable of abusing their powers. The show, later on, has Captain Holt and Detective Amy Santiago lead a new department dedicated to reforming the NYPD. Even though this is not a solution right away, it’s definitely a step forward towards a better world.

As the crew celebrates their final heist, things get emotional. Terry goes on to become the new captain as Holt’s replacement, and Boyle becomes the new Jake of the precinct. He too has an overly eager sidekick which replicates his relationship with Jake. But things are not over. One year later, we find Terry leading the precinct. Right when he is about to wind up the morning meeting, Jake pulls up in a full showman attire and announces the heist. On one hand, Holt is in full janitor disguise wheels in Rosa in a plastic dumpster. On the other hand, Amy sticks her head out of the ceiling. So yes, the crew is still tight and we thank each and every one of them for such a wonderful show!
