Chiwetel Ejiofor made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut back in 2016, with Doctor Strange. He portrayed the sorcerer Karl Mordo, who acted as a mentor for Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr Strange. However, Mordo was a villain in the comics and, at the end of the film, seemed to be leaning more towards a darker side.

Although Dr Strange has appeared in a further three movies since his debut, Mordo is nowhere to be seen. In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Ejiofor was asked what Mordo was up to during Thanos’ invasion of Earth.

‘All will be revealed’, he teases.

Up until this point, it was unclear whether Ejiofor would be in the Dr Strange sequel. However, Ejiofor confirms his appearance whilst discussing Scott Derrickson’s departure.

Derrickson directed the first film and was set to do the second but left due to creative differences. Spider-Man director, Sam Raimi, has now been attached.

‘[Raimi] is coming on, ‘ Ejiofor explained in his interview. ‘I’m very, very excited about that. Obviously, we’ve been sort of interrupted as the whole world has been in the pandemic but hopefully we are back on track with that and continuing quite soon, so I’m very excited about it.’

Raimi has previously expressed his love for the character of Dr Strange. ‘I loved Doctor Strange as a kid…but when we had that moment in Spider-Man 2 I had no idea that we would ever be making a Doctor Strange movie, so it was really funny to me that coincidentally that line was in the movie. I gotta say I wish we had the foresight to know that I was going to be involved in the project.’

Doctor Strange Into The Multiverse is set to be released in 2022.
