Reactions to Steve Rogers’s ending in Avengers: Endgame was divided but one thing to be said is that it surely brought some closure to Captain America’s arc. But fans still can’t stop speculating whether Marvel could give him another go as the sentinel of liberty.

How Can Captain America Return?

People who have seen Avengers: Endgame will know that Steve Rogers manages to come out of his latest adventure in one piece, but it’s implied that his adventuring days are over. At the end of the movie, Steve travels back in time to return all the Infinity Stones but instead of making the jump back to the present day he chooses to live out his life with Peggy Carter and presumably retires from the superhero game too. As such, by the time Steve reunites with Bucky and Sam, he’s an old man who looks to be nearing the end of his life. There he gives his shield to Sam Wilson who is set to return in the Falcon and Winter Soldier TV show.

So if we want Steve back in the main timeline then it will be difficult and he certainly won’t be Captain America. But Avengers: Endgame has opened a lot of doors for more Steve stories as well. For one thing, the movie has introduced the notion of alternate timelines and this includes the reality where Loki runs off with the Tesseract and Cap loses a fight with a future version of himself. What’s more, seeing how Steve lived a full life with Peggy, perhaps there’s still potential for the two of them to have further adventures together.

Regardless of it all, you could probably make the case that Marvel should leave Steve’s story as it is. Avengers: Endgame has for now brought a fitting closure to his journey and so bringing him back might cheapen the moment of goodbye to Steve. So even if they decide to bring him back, it should be after some years ateast. While everyone would love to see him back, it’s important to see how Falcon and Winter Soldier holds up and if Marvel has any plans exploring the timeline where Steve went to live.
