John Diggle As The Green Lantern Theories Have Existed For Long

CW’s Elseworlds crossover hinted that John Diggle’s Earth-90 counterpart is basically, the John Stewart version of the iconic Green Lantern. This led fans to speculate if Diggle could indeed also become the Emerald Warrior at some point in the series.

John being the Green Lantern was a theory which was famous in Arrow fancircles for years, especially after the show put in hints about Hal Jordan. But John Diggle’s stepfather, General Stewart arriving in the most recent episode fanned the flames of those theories, because both characters have been estranged for years.

How Could John Diggle Canonically Become The Green Lantern?

Arrow’s newest episode showed that father-son ultimately reconciled after Diggle came to know that the General accepted blame for a mission which went wrong. He did so to ensure that John’s biological father could die with his reputation intact.

This reconciliation has made viewers think if John will indeed adopt his father’s surname or begin to use it in one way or the other. Doing so would bring the character one step closer to becoming the Green Lantern John Stewart of Comic book lore.

Who Was John Stewart?

Comics lore tells us that John Stewart was a Marine sniper before he became the Green Lantern. But Arrow viewers know that John Diggle has little in common with the character aside from the first name and service in the military.

John Diggle could very well become the Green Lantern and with the threat of Crisis looming on the horizon, the arrowverse is going to need all the heroes it can get.

Arrow continues next week with the episode titled “Confessions“.

Arrow airs on Mondays at 8:00 p.m ET on The CW.
