Fans were surprised yesterday with a new report from The Wrap about James Gunn in talks with DC Films for helming Suicide Squad 2. And now, the director has full support from his former Guardians of the Galaxy star, Dave Bautista.

Bautista has been extremely vocal about supporting Gunn after the director was fired by Marvel. The wrestler-turned-actor took to Twitter to show his support for Gunn, even willing to sign on to the film.

According to a new report by The Wrap, Gunn is being considered by DC Films to helm Suicide Squad, as the film is underway but has no director working on it. Earlier, Gavin O’ Connor was connected to the franchise, but it seems like the director has backed out now.

Later, another update by The Hollywood Reporter stated that the deal between Gunn and Warner Bros. has been closed and that, the film may not be a sequel to the first film, ie., Gunn may start the film from the scratch and it will be interesting to see if Bautista could actually get a role in the franchise.

As for Bautista, who plays Drax in the MCU, has always stood by Gunn since his decade-old tweets resurfaced on Twitter. Bautista even announced that he might quit the franchise if they don’t use Gunn’s script for the film. This led many fans to wonder if Bautista will be fired by Disney.

“No, I’m aware that this could possibly cost me a job that I care for very much, but at the same time it’s an integrity issue,” Bautista said in an interview in September. “It’s also a loyalty issue, so now I’m not going to… I’m not [going to] bite my tongue or anything. That’s just who I am as a person.”
