Disney’s takeover of 20th Century Fox was a boon for Marvel fans who wanted the X-Men and Fantastic Four to join the MCU. But it also meant that Disney would be acquiring Deadpool. Deadpool’s two solo movies have made a combined $1.5bn at the box office. But concerns were regarding its R-rated nature and the possibility that it would put Marvel Studios ill at-ease with their general line of family-friendly movies.
Deadpool Writers Excited To Play In MCU’s Sandbox
There are always rumours going around of various kinds regarding Deadpool 3. But it hasn’t been confirmed from reliable sources that Deadpool 3 is indeed in active development. But to ease the fan frenzy, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have revealed in a recent interview that Wade Wilson will be officially becoming part of the MCU. They said.
“We definitely want to play in the sandbox. One of the great things about the MCU is how rich and broad it is. For instance, just think about the world of villains, how great the world of villains are. We’re never able to use a lot of those villains because they were in the MCU. Well, now we can. So, right away, we’re definitely excited about getting the shot to do that. I think Ryan is too. I think the MCU people are too, just the idea of throwing Deadpool into the mix is exciting to them.”
Ryan Reynolds Will Continue Playing Deadpool
Obviously this doesn’t exactly tell us what the writers are planning for Deadpool 3 but what it does tell is that they are excited to bring this character into the MCU. It also means that Marvel Studios wants to make this movie and that the rumours which surfaced were false.
Moreover, it reaffirms in a way that Ryan Reynolds will be back as Deadpool. Anyone who has even perused Deadpool comics knows that the Merc with a mouth has the ability to jump universes thanks to his self awareness and fourth wall breaking abilities. As such it was pretty much a given that Ryan Reynolds would be resuming his role even in the MCU.
Overall, Deadpool in a PG-13 rated MCU universe needs to handled carefully. It certainly will push creative boundaries when it comes to introducing this foul mouthed, fourth-wall breaking hero into a franchise which has more than a decade of intricate and connected storytelling behind them.
