Ryan Reynolds underwent a potentially life-saving colonoscopy
The Deadpool actor, Ryan Reynolds recently underwent his first ever colonoscopy and discovered a “subtle polyp” on his colon. The colonoscopy for the movie star was completed by CBS News chief medical correspondent Dr. Jonathan LaPook. The doctor explained to the celebrity that it usually only takes around 30 minutes to complete the procedure. After the actor turned 45 years old which is the new suggested age to start screening for those at risk, he decided to undergo the procedure. Ryan Reynolds personally went to Jonathon LaPook who used to be the actor’s doctor in the past as well. The actor admitted that a colonoscopy is a crucial surgery that everyone, male and female, should have at age 45. It was revealed after the procedure that the Free Guy actor was at risk of colon cancer but the surgery eliminated it.
The Deadpool actor wanted to spread awareness about colon cancer
While undergoing the procedure for the first time, Ryan Reynold decided to broadcast it to spread awareness. The Deadpool actor along with Rob McElhenney, chose to team up with Lead From Behind, a colon cancer awareness initiative. The actor told that his goal is to urge individuals, particularly men, to have the treatment when the time comes. The Green Lantern actor told:
“I would never normally have any medical procedure put on camera and then shared. But it’s not every day that you can raise awareness about something that will most definitely save lives. That’s enough motivation for me to let you in on a camera being shoved up my ass.”
Ryan Reynolds is being praised on social media
The actor’s video about colon cancer is receiving a lot of love from fans and media alike. Posting a video about one’s medical procedure requires a lot of courage, and even harder if it is something like colonoscopy. The stigma built around the procedure makes people feel uncomfortable and in order to break that, the actor decided to broadcast it. People on their social media are discussing and praising Ryan Reynold’s thoughtful action. The actor has once again proven why his fans love him so much.

So important to get checked. You never know. I had no clue, wasn’t sick, had no symptoms before I was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer. I shudder to think what would have happened if I hadn’t gone in for a checkup. @VancityReynolds #LeadFromBehind https://t.co/mMjE8L6M74

You can totally have it done without sedation. I offer that to patients who are scared of anesthesia, want to go back to work, want to watch, or are high risk for anesthesia. As I tell my patients, if a woman can have a baby w/o anesthesia, a person can have a colonoscopy w/o it.
