Netflix is starting to face more competition with the launch of Disney+. But they are not ready to lose the game. The age-old Beverly Hills Cop franchise is being renewed and Netflix and Paramount will produce it. Also, the team has roped in Eddie Murphy, who had played Axel Foley in the past three movies of the action-comedy franchise.
Eddie Murphy Returns as Axel Foley
The Beverly Hills Cop fame Eddie Murphy is returning to the franchise after his oscar worthy movie Dolemite Is My Name. The first movie of the franchise was released in 1984, further expanding the franchise to two more movies. After years of attempts to bring back Axel Foley to the silver-screen, Paramount have finally succeeded. Meanwhile, Netflix has nabbed the rights to the new Beverly Hills Cop movie.
One Time Agreement
The Paramount has entered in a one time agreement with Netflix giving the latter the screening rights. However, there is an option for one additional sequel in the agreement. Netflix is renewing their partnership with Eddie Murphy after the critically acclaimed Dolemite Is My Name. The agreement comes as a relief for Netflix, which has added a new rival to its list, Disney+. With Disney+ earning rights for several franchises and movies it is going to be tough for Netflix. The movie will also see the return of producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
Release Dates to be Announced
The first two movies of the Beverly Hills Cop franchise have been a huge success. However, the third movie did not reach expectations of both fans and critics. The movie is an action comedy which features Axel Foley, a street-smart Detroit cop transferred to Beverly Hills. There is no word on when the movie’s production will start. Fans are waiting for an official announcement. Meanwhile, Eddie Murphy in an interview with Collider confirmed that Beverly Hills Cop 4 will be his next project. He is currently working with the Coming To America Franchise.
