Why did Emily Ratajkowski tweet that?

Emily Ratajkowski recently tweeted the following tweet. People are confused as though why she tweeted the controversial statement. If one goes by the timeline, it was posted just after a Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin suffered a massive accident on the field while tackling a player.

Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed on the field during the game on Monday night and the way NFL handled the situation put any player’s safety into question. The game was postponed after the deadly tackle. The game is a violent one and people have questioned it time and again. This life-threatening incident sent shockwaves in the world of sports. NFL pledged to stop “race-norming”

It is now safe to say that the accident that Damar Hamlin faced was the reason for her tweet. Emily Ratajkowski followed up her tweet by sharing an article that stated that NFL would stop race-norming when dealing with brain injuries. It is very common for NFL players to suffer deadly concussions on a daily basis due to the violent nature of the game. This norm made it harder for the Black players to show a deficit and qualify for an award. This norm claimed that the black players already started out with the lower cognitive function. A new reform has been introduced.

“The replacement norms will be applied prospectively and retrospectively for those players who otherwise would have qualified for an award but for the application of race-based norms,” NFL said in the statement they released.

Emily Ratajkowski might also be referencing the same context and denouncing NFL for that exact same reason.

“I am sorry for the pain this episode has caused Black former players and their families. Ultimately, this settlement only works if former players believe in it, and my goal is to regain their trust and ensure the NFL is fully held to account,” said lawyer Christopher Seeger who negotiated the settlement.

Although the article shared by Emily Ratajkowski was a year and a half old. This made it clear what point she was trying to make. In spite of the change in reform, it is still not implemented properly and it is concerning. Thus, Emily Ratajkowski like us is also concerned about the players’ safety on the field.
