James Gunn recently hosted his #QuarantineWatchParty. Here, he revealed that Nebula and Gamora were planned to have much smaller roles in Avengers films! But Gunn also explained how he expanded their characters. And we are glad because the sister-duo played significant roles in the storyline.

Gunn’s Watch Party

The writer and director of Guardians – James Gunn hosted the second session of his #QuarantineWatchParty for the Twitterverse. And this session’s focus was Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. Indeed, Gunn had some interesting bits to share with the entire Marvel fandom. But his revelation about cameo roles for Thanos’s famous daughters is what surprised the fans.

The Director Reveals His Initial Plans

Gunn revealed that the sisters’ roles were earlier restricted to only cameos. But soon their characters developed for more than just cameos. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the sister-duo expanded their relationship, and they parted on good terms. Besides, both the sisters carry similar trauma, thanks to the horrors of a lifetime inflicted on them by Thanos. Hence, the writer giving them more significant roles makes perfect sense. Gunn explained on twitter:

Previously, Nebula and Gamora were always pitted against each other by Thanos, their father. So, the Guardians’ writer-director further explained how he “wanted to tell the story of sisters” to the fans. He said:

The Sisters Played Crucial Characters In The Films

Obviously, it is safe to say this was a good move on Gunn’s part. Ultimately, Gamora was an important emotional core for Avengers: Infinity War. Here, Thanos not only confronts her but also sacrifices her for the Soul Stone. Similarly, Nebula played a huge role in Avengers: Endgame. Here, she runs into her past self during her quest to retrieve the Infinity Stones. And, it also ports past version of Gamora to the present timeline!

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, written and directed by James Gunn has no release date as of now. However, by February 2021, the film may begin production.
