After ending an 11-year-old relationship with ex-partner Gerard Piqué, Shakira posted a cryptic New Year message recently. It seems to suggest that the singer is moving on from the heartbreak she suffered. For those unversed, Piqué immediately started his relationship with 23-year-old Clara Chia Marti after his split from Shakira. According to insider reports, the Hips Don’t Lie, the singer was more hurt by the news becoming public rather than the actual thing. This was because her main focus was to protect her children from negative media attention. But it was made impossible by Piqué’s news of dating Marti so soon after the actual split. But now, regardless of what happened, the mother of two has decided to move on with the new year.
Shakira’s cryptic New Year Message
As everyone is going into the new year with their plans and resolutions, Shakira also gave an update to her fans by penning a new year message via Instagram. Although the singer did not directly point out any specific event or person, she did mention “heartbreak” and “betrayal”. The Rabiosa singer wrote,
“Even if our wounds are still open in this new year, the time has a surgeon’s hands.”
Seemingly, the “wound” suggests the hurt she faced due to the split with Gerard Pique. Furthermore, Shakira emphasized the existence of loving and trustable people in one’s life saying,
“Even if someone’s betrayed us, we must continue to trust others.”
And she also pointed out and advised her fans about how there were more “emphatic” people than “indecent” people in the world. With that, her message seems to imply a single experience with a bad person should not stop one from making new connections with better people. Additionally, the singer also wrote, “The ones who leave are fewer” which points to her split with her former partner. The mother of two finally closed the message with the lines,
“so that even while suffering heartache we can continue to love.”
Here, the “heartache” is definitely from her former partner and his new girlfriend Clara Chia Marti’s relationship. Regardless of what went down between the ex-couple, the message is clear that Shakira is accepting what happened moving on with the new year. This is good news for her fans.
Why Did the Split Happen?
Shakira and Gerard Pique’s separation news came as a surprise to everyone. Their relationship lasted more than a decade. Although they never tied the knot, the ex-couple share two sons with each other. The news of their split came in June of 2022. They released a joint statement saying,
“We regret to confirm that we are separating. “
And since then, the former football player has moved on with his 23-year-old girlfriend Clara Chia Marti. However, in a September interview with Elle last year, Shakira admitted that she was still processing the split as she had put “everything” into the relationship.
Piqué and Shakira have two sons named Sasha (7) and Milan (9).
