When he first burst onto the scene in 1962, Spider-Man comics were considered pretty silly. He was the star of some absurd gags, which is something that old-school fans tend to forget. Fortunately, as time went on – and during Peter Parker’s stint with Captain America’s team The Avengers – Marvel started writing him as a more serious character. They shied away from over-the-top humor and gave us a version of the wall-crawler we had never seen before.

Ironically when Marvel desperately needed to get new young people interested in their comics again in 2011, they once again played up Stan Lee’s original, light-hearted vision of Spider-Man by giving us an even more silly jokester who seemed less worried about paying his rent and enjoyed hanging out with The Hulk more. But there isn’t any doubt that he had quite some funny moments in the comic world and these are some of them, ranked in ascending order –

The “Black” Friends

The Daily Bugle Lawsuit
The Daily Bugle Lawsuit

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse for Spider-Man, he’s somehow been dragged into court again and this time, it’s for a trial against The Daily Bugle.  When She-Hulk tells Spidey that she can help him get back at J. Jonah Jameson for running his name through the mud in The Daily Bugle, Spider-Man realizes that it is the simplest court case in the world. With that being said, the panel was indeed great and that’s exactly where Spidey’s sharp wit helped him to prove that Jameson is nothing but extremely slimy.

I’m With The Spiders

Marvel Adventures: Spider-Man
Marvel Adventures: Spider-Man

If you were Spider-Man, wouldn’t it make sense to be able to communicate with all of the city’s spiders? Or if not that, at least throw a handful of them at an opponent? That’s what we would do if we owned a pair of spidey suits. One scene in the latest issue of Marvel Adventures: Spider-Man tells this tale when the wall-crawler gets matched up against Emma Frost and a new supervillain who may not be very good at his job despite being new. And there’s apparently never been a spider person before!

The Oldest Man

The New Avengers: Siege
The New Avengers: Siege

There’s plenty of action in Marvel’s New Avengers story arc, but to sum up the “Siege” plot as simply as we can: Norman Osbourne, the Sentry, and Loki want to take over Asgard which is floating above the state of Oklahoma at the moment. while all other superheroes were facing the villains above Oklahoma, Spider-Woman and Spider-Man are staking out at Norman’s office. The quips back and forth between these two just like any other scene between them would imply early bickering that is often seen in romantic relationships, except this time when he is being the dork that he is!

The Superman Panel

In a Spider-Man comic, Peter Parker is a college student who has plenty of time to spare. One day, he comes across what seems to be an alien ship crash landing near him in the middle of Central Park. Upon further inspection, however, the object turns out to not be from outer space but the unstoppable Juggernaut.

Get It Right

Miles Morales’ Spider-Man
Miles Morales’ Spider-Man

Miles Morales had to earn Peter Parker’s respect solely by defeating Blackheart. Since our MCU has two different Spider-Men, there are so many jokes to be made including those regarding quipping. Everything that is said is comical in some way, but the joke about how Peter says “with great power come great responsibilities” and Miles corrects him to say “comes with it ‘great power'” becomes our personal favorite.
