Good & Bad: 5 Actors Who’ve Been Nominated For Both An Oscar & A Razzie
Just like the Bizarro version of The Academy Awards, The Golden Raspberry Awards skeptical side of the audiences and critics. Razzies are often seen as spiteful and end up making fun of actors and well, also their hard work, making it a fun proceeding every year.
The Razzie awards vary from Worst Supporting Supporting Actor, Worst Actor, Worst Actress, and the list goes on. Although it’s rare, there have been cases when these actors have been nominated for Academy Awards too.
Here are the top five:
5. Mark Wahlberg
Mark Wahlberg was nominated for the Worst Actor for two films in a single year – Max Payne and The Happening, and later for Transformers: The Last Knight and Daddy’s Home 2.
However, despite all of that he was nominated for the best actor at the Academy Awards for The Fighter and The Departed and is till seen as one of the best actors in the business (and also, richest).
4. Leonardo DiCaprio
This comes off as a surprise, doesn’t it? Leonardo is seen as one of the greatest actors of our era and while taking his time to choose his roles, he is very selective about the films he does. He has been nominated on a lot of occasions until finally winning the Oscar for “The Revenant”.
However, this doesn’t mean that DiCaprio hasn’t done anything bad. In the 2000s film The Beach, which was a thriller, the actor was nominated for the worst actor. While the film really sucked, DiCaprio’s bad acting wasn’t the worst thing about it.
3. Anne Hathaway
Why Anne Hathaway is a brilliant actress is because she never possesses any pretense over the roles she chooses to portray. Being a prestigious actor, she will also not be shy to star in a silly Steve Carrell film – something that says a lot about her.
However, this comes with consequences. She was nominated for the Worst Actress for her role in The Witches, which is still one of the worst things to have come out of HBO. However, her tear-jerking performance in Les Miserables even won Hathaway an Oscar.
2. Halle Berry
While Halle Berry may not be appearing in as many films as she used to, the reason might be her performance as Catwoman, something that made her more selective about the roles she chooses.
Catwoman was extremely bad and got nothing but negative reviews from the critics, even leading to a Worst Actor win for Berry.
1. Johnny Depp
This is the most interesting one. Johnny Depp got nominated for the Worst Actor for Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
Jack Sparrow, at one time, was a really compelling character of the 2000s era but gradually, it became less exciting. It’s actually sad to see Depp getting the Worst Actor award for a film which won him the Best Actor at the Oscars 14 years back.
