Everyone makes mistakes, and great artists are no exception. This is particularly true for not having the foresight to realize that by accepting certain opportunities, they might have experienced greater success. One such similar incident happened with Katy Perry who now regrets turning down a fantastic opportunity that she received years ago. Perry is seen in a recent 102.7 KIIS FM TikTok video reflecting on a decision she made years ago not to work with an up-and-coming artist.

You might be surprised to learn why Katy Perry’s recent comments are currently trending online.

It’s unclear to whom Perry is referring, but she stated that someone once “sent me an email that was: Hey, check out this new artist. I’d really like us to work with her because she was working with me for Unsub [Records].”

You did indeed hear that right! It’s none other than Billie Eilish, the star of Ocean Eyes. Katy Perry (38) mentioned that she once had the chance to work with Eilish but turned it down in a video posted by radio station 102.7 KIIS FM. It was for Eilish‘s debut single, Ocean Eyes, which she released prior to earning numerous Grammy Awards, something Perry hasn’t accomplished in her career.

According to Perry, she received an email asking her to “look at this new artist. She was working with me for Unsub Records, and I really want us to work with her because of that,” she recalled. She remained mum regarding the email’s sender, though.

Perry continued, “It was just a blonde girl, and it was a song called Ocean Eyes. And I was like, ‘Meh, boring.’ Big mistake. Big mistake.”

Perry’s comments were met with laughter from the audience, who understood that she was referring to i love you singer’s chart-topping debut single. The opinions of Twitter users are also being shared, with one user remarking, “Good. She would’ve ruined the whole song.”

They have remained close ever since

The incident in question took place in 2015, the year Billie Eilish made her debut and at a time when Katy Perry was the biggest star on the planet and ruled the charts. Eilish has since received an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and seven Grammy Awards. While Perry really has undervalued the wish you were gay star. 

However, My Strange Addiction singer and Perry have remained close ever since. In her 2012 documentary, Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry, she described how she and Perry first met backstage at Coachella and how Perry then introduced her to her boyfriend, Orlando Bloom.

“My fiancé, who doesn’t listen to modern music, just plays you in the car all the time,” Perry told Eilish. “I’m so proud of you,” Bloom told Billi as he gave her a hug.

The Last Friday Night singer also offered to be close to her and congratulated her, saying, “I wanted to tell you that this is going to be wild for about ten years. Because it’s a weird ride, if you ever want to talk.”

The Listen Before I Go singer also portrayed meeting Bloom and his fiancée Katy Perry at Coachella in her documentary The World’s a Little Blurry, which debuted on Apple TV+ today (February 26, 2021).
