With the Marvel Universe in a state of peace after the Infinity saga, it’s finally time for a new enemy to try and seize power. Thor standalone movies were always an opportunity to learn more about the God of Thunder and his interesting friends, with some featuring a sprinkling of romance. However, this time he will have to face Gorr the God Butcher. Although the first official look at him hasn’t been that promising, the official trailer shows how he will look in Thor: Love and Thunder – and here’s how it compares to the comic book version.
Who Is Gorr The God Butcher?
In the comics, Gorr comes from a planet where his people worshiped Gods who saved them from extreme conditions. However, when his family died from an illness, he began to question why the Gods weren’t helping him the way they helped most others. After that, he turned against them and sought to destroy them all in revenge; which earned him the name ‘God Butcher.’ His outfit is as frightening as his actions because of how it mimics that of a God’s avatar, with long robes designed specifically to make people believe he’s one of them.
Gorr’s Appearance In The MCU
The Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Christian Bale’s Gorr has been met with mixed opinions. But if you have hit the comic-book forums or other sources you’ll see that most fans agree he looks a little like Lord Voldemort from Harry Potter. This is maybe due to his bright eyes and a flat nose. The makeup and costume of Bale seem unscathed as this gives us hope that maybe the black detailing around his body will be seen in the film when the character will finally bond with Necrosword.
The movie is going to hit the theaters on July 8th July this year. With that being said, comics fans are eagerly waiting for the release of Marvel’s Thor film to see how Gorr looks in his first-ever appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
