After taking a big decision for Wonder Woman 1984, Warner Bros. and WarnerMedia have taken an even bigger decision for all of their 2021 feature films. They’ve made a massive play to gain subscribers on HBO Max. Considering that COVID-19 might still hinder with the success of all theatrically released films, Warner Bros. have given every one of their 2021 movies the Wonder Woman 1984 treatment. So, all of their upcoming releases of the next year will arrive in the theatres, and on HBO Max simultaneously.

Warner Bros. chairperson and CEO, Ann Sarnoff made the following official statement:

“We’re living in unprecedented times which call for creative solutions, including this new initiative for the Warner Bros. Pictures Group. No one wants films back on the big screen more than we do. We know new content is the lifeblood of theatrical exhibition, but we have to balance this with the reality that most theaters in the U.S. will likely operate at reduced capacity throughout 2021.”

HBO Max isn’t available for everyone in the world. So, the international market will only get to watch the films in the theatres, unless Warner Bros. makes new deals with local streaming partners and networks in different countries. We’ll look into those specifics later. For now, let’s look at the theatrical and HBO Max release schedule of all WB films next year:

Mortal Kombat – January 15, 2021

Since the marketing of Mortal Kombat hadn’t even begun, we were presuming that it will be pushed back. But with the HBO Max release, we should expect a new trailer to arrive real soon.

The Little Things – January 29, 2021

Tom & Jerry – March 5, 2021

This is a film that could really profit with the new release pattern of Warner Bros. films. It may not have made a lot of Box Office dollars, but it could now result in some great viewership numbers for HBO Max.

The Many Saints of Newark – March 12, 2021

Reminiscence – April 16, 2021

Godzilla vs. Kong – May 21, 2021

This is one of the films that people should still try to watch in the theatres. It is a grand spectacle which deserves big screen viewings. But if the theatrical option isn’t suitable, then you’d always have the streaming option.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It – June 4, 2021

The third Conjuring movie will certainly stack major viewership numbers.

In The Heights – June 18, 2021

The Suicide Squad – August 6, 2021

James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is a big budget R-Rated movie. So, it might result in pulling a massive number of subs. But it’s another blockbuster event that deserves a big screen treatment.

Dune – October 1, 2021

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune is another highly anticipated film of 2021. It could prove to be a visual spectacle, so you should try the conventional way of watching this particular film.

King Richard – November 19, 2021

The Matrix 4 – December 22, 2021

Keanu Reeves’ fourth outing in the Matrix could prove to be the best film of 2021. So, make a wise decision upon how you’re going to watch it. I’d say that it is also a film that deserves an audience in the theatres.

Besides these movies, HBO Max is also set to bring us the Snyder Cut in a new series format. WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar stated that “Zack Snyder’s Justice League coming in a few months as well.” So, we may not have to wait for another 6 months or so, as the Snyder Cut might hit HBO Max within the first half of 2021.

This play of Warner Bros. and Warner Media may not guarantee the monetary success of all the films, but it will surely boost the number of HBO Max subscribers. So, if the streamer gets close to the subscribers of Disney+ or even Amazon Prime, all these films could collectively gain profits. Furthermore, they’ll also be making money off of international theatrical releases. So, it could prove to be a killer move in these tough Corona times.

Which of these films are you excited about? Tell us in the comments.
