“He fell off the bed”: Robert Pattinson Got So Wild With Underage Kristen Stewart During Audition That Left Director Shocked

When the cast for the Twilight franchise was being finalized, no one knew that it would go on to become a movie that literally every person in that generation would go on to watch. Not even the director, Catherine Hardwicke. But the casting was very much successful, with Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson hitting it off right off the bat.

The two even dated in real life, but to their fans’ utter dismay, it didn’t work out. However, the chemistry between them was electric. But if Hardwicke’s words are anything to go by, their intimate scene was a little too intense for an underage Kristen Stewart.

Speaking on The Big Hit Podcast, Catherine Hardwicke made the revelation that when Robert Pattinson walked in for the audition, she didn’t have high expectations from the Lighthouse star. But that all changed the moment the iconic pair of Edward and Bella got together in bed.

Hardwicke recalled,

“He walked in and he had his hair dyed black for some play, with these wacky bangs. He was a bit out of shape. His shirt was just all messy, and I’m like, ‘Oh, okay. Okay, let’s see how this goes.’”

But she soon found out that looks can be deceiving.

In the audition, Kristen Stewart and Pattinson had to perform a kissing scene on the director’s bed. The audition began, and the two immediately got into character. There was passion. She could sense the connection. But the scene had to be cut when The Batman actor injured himself.

Hardwicke said, “Rob and Kristen auditioned on my bed, the kissing scene, Rob was so into it he fell off the bed.” The Red Riding Hood director was obviously shocked. She continued, “I’m like, ‘Dude, calm down.’ And I’m in there filming with my little video camera, whatever.”

Her concerns didn’t end there. The Spencer actress was only 17 at the time of the audition. The director had to remind the Tenet star that. She said,

“I remember I told Rob, ‘By the way, Kristen is 17. In our country, it’s illegal to have a sexual …’ And he’s like, ‘Oh, okay, whatever.'”

That didn’t stop the two from eventually dating though.

But despite all the chaos, Hardwicke walked out a happy director. She instantly knew that she had found her leads. She said, “I could tell they had a lot of chemistry.” Even the Charlie’s Angels actress was hellbent on getting Pattinson cast.

Hardwicke said, “At the end [after the audition], Kristen was like, ‘It has to be Rob.'” And the rest as we know it, is history. Even after 14 years and 5 movies, their love story endures.
