Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck might be looking at several marital issues because of the couple not seeing eye to eye on quite a few things. However, this is not a new phenomenon. The couple had first got engaged over 2 decades ago and called the wedding off only 4 days before the event. While there could be a plethora of reasons for their not going through with the process, an anecdote clarifies that JLo wasn’t too crazy about Affleck’s choices either, at least back then. Until they found their way back to each other in 2021, that is.
Jennifer Lopez found Ben Affleck’s original engagement ring ‘whatever’
Now that Bennifer is moderately happily married, or so the reports say, a funny throwback to their original engagement seems befitting. Back in 2020, while Jennifer Lopez was engaged to baseball player, Alex Rodriguez, she posted an at-home video hangout with Apple Music host Zane Lowe. The video saw the On The Floor singer talking about her daily family life in quarantine and also reminisced several memories over the years.
It was during this video that everyone watched Barbra Streisand’s 1968 classic Funny Girl. And then the Hustlers star went on to recall meeting Streisand at an Oscar party.
The anecdote also involved the engagement ring that her then former-beau Ben Affleck had got her in the early 2000s.
“I met [Streisand] at an Oscar party, years ago, and I was at the time engaged to Ben Affleck, and she’s really into diamonds, which I didn’t know. He had given me a pink diamond, which got a lot of press and was whatever. I loved getting it, don’t get me wrong. So she came up to me, and like, she’s heard of it. I’m like, ‘Oh my God.’ And she’s like, ‘Can I see your ring?’ And she asked me about the ring, but then she asked me—and I thought it was so strange—about being famous, and how I handle it.”

Ben Affleck chose the right ring the second time
The Gone Girl star is also one smart chap and he chose prudently the second time he got a chance. Bennifer 2.0 got engaged earlier this year and this time Affleck proposed to his lady love with a ring that flaunts an 8.5-carat natural green diamond studded between matching pair of trapezoid-shaped white diamonds. And this ring was a hit with not just the woman he intended to propose it with but also among jewelers.
Mike Fried, the CEO of The Diamond Pro talked to Page Six Style about the exquisite green diamond,
“If that is indeed a green diamond, then I am stunned. A green diamond of that size is incredibly rare and would dwarf the value of their previous engagement ring. I would value the ring well over $5 million and could be worth more than $10 million.”
Safe to say, the Justice League star had done his homework this time, and it did lead to a wedding that the couple went through, unlike their previous engagement.
