“He was positively an alpha male”: Kelly Ripa Was Left Weak in Her Knees After Meeting Mark Consuelos Despite Claiming She Wasn’t Drawn to Him Initially
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are undoubtedly one of Hollywood’s legit couple goals. The two married young when they were both 25 and have remained married for over 25 years now. On top of that, they have managed to keep the spark alive even after spending most years of their lives together. They still have a very healthy s*x life and are also pretty vocal about it without acting as if it were a taboo. The daytime talk show host has even shared a bedroom anecdote in her memoir released last year, Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories. However, despite them being utterly in love even after all these years, Ripa once admitted that she didn’t think that she would be attracted to Consuelos when they first met.
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos had a perfect meet-cute
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos’ first encounter easily qualifies as a perfect meet-cute. Ripa had been a part of the hit soap opera All My Children while Consuelos was looking for a break.
As is a general rule in casting for soap operas, the aspiring candidates are usually made to read their lines with the existing actors on the show. So in 1995, luckily for Consuelos, when he came in to audition, the producers made Ripa read lines with him. It was sort of an instant attraction on both parts and the rest is history.
They started seeing each other not much later and ended up eloping the following year itself. In 1997, they welcomed their first child, Michael. And soon, two more of their kids were born, Lola in 2001, and Joaquin in 2003.
Mark Consuelos didn’t think he stood a chance with Kelly Ripa on their first meet
About their first meet, the Riverdale actor revealed in a 2014 interview with the Huffington Post his thoughts on the encounter. The 51-year-old was obviously focused on the audition but that didn’t distract him from being instantly drawn toward the Generation Gap host. He recalled,
“I thought she was adorable, hot and s*xy and all that stuff. But I was very focused — I didn’t really think I had a chance with her, so I wasn’t really focused on that.”
“I was drawn to Mark because he was positively an alpha male, and I didn’t think I would be drawn to that. But I just worship him. He makes me feel very safe.”
