Helen Cho, Where Have You Been When We Last Saw Her In Avengers: Age of Ultron?

Helen Cho is one of the many characters to be featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

The MCU has seen the introduction of a number of characters throughout the years. While some were just incidental and appeared only once, others went on to play pivotal roles in subsequent films. Marvel is known for fixing their mistakes, and they have always made an effort to ensure that everything we see in the film is defined and well explained. Helen Cho, who features in Avengers: Age of Ultron, has to be one of the former characters. Later in the franchise, the character is barely addressed, depicted, or hinted at. Helen Cho’s disappearance from the MCU begs the question of where she’s been and what she’s been up to since the week of Ultron.

The second Avengers film may not be the most popular in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole, but it does bring a slew of new characters to the franchise. We got to witness some action from Wanda and Pietro Maximoff, the sibling combo introduced in Captain America: The Winter Soldier’s post-credit sequence. Along with them, we saw the birth of Vision, who would go on to become one of the most important Avengers. Helen Cho, played by Claudia Kim, was another character who appeared and was hauled inside the Avengers tower. When Hawkeye is injured on the first mission, Tony Stark brings her in. Claudia Kim’s mother, Helen Cho, was a world-renowned geneticist and the CEO of the South Korean scientific research and development firm, UGIN. She had a pre-existing relationship with the Avengers because she worked in Bruce Banner’s lab at the New York headquarters. She used the Regeneration Cradle to assist Hawkeye in healing his wound. Her role was essential in the film because she was able to break free from Ultron’s hypnosis with the assistance of Wanda, allowing her to prevent Ultron from acquiring a human-like body. However, later in the film, we see her efforts and medical technology equipment giving birth to Vision. After recovering from her injuries, the character was last seen working at the new Avengers Facility in upstate New York. She joined Erik Selvig’s crew, as we see her exploring the labs with Maria Hill in one of the film’s concluding montages. But the character was never seen again after that, as if Marvel Studios had forgotten about him.

Helen Cho’s Involvement in the MCU:

Given that she was one of the most important people responsible for setting up the events of Age of Ultron, it’s strange that she hasn’t been addressed again. Cho may not have been on the front lines, but fans will recall that she was also in charge of Tony Stark’s nanotechnology, which we saw him employ in Avengers: Infinity War. The character deserves credit for ensuring that Iron Man was able to combat Thanos and several other opponents, since he would have perished quite easily otherwise. Since we’ve seen WandaVision work on other of the MCU’s generally underappreciated supporting characters, like Jimmy Woo and Darcy Lewis, Cho may have been brought back here as well. Each of the following series will provide depth to specific characters. We can anticipate her to appear in one of these series, and we may learn more about her location during the events of Infinity War and Endgame. Given her experience, she might be working with S.W.O.R.D. and could have been a member of one of the projects that supervised bringing Vision back to life.

Will her presence encourage Amadeus Cho to participate in future MCU projects?

Given that Helen Cho has already worked with Bruce Banner, one considerably more intriguing approach to reintroducing her would be in the impending She-Hulk project. She could have worked on both repairing Smart Hulk’s arm and removing him from himself in the Smart Hulk. This storyline might pave the way for Amadeus Cho, a.k.a. Brawn, to debut in the franchise. We’d love to see Marvel bring Helen Cho back in order to validate her existence in the MCU.
