Here’s Why These Marvel Heroes Sided With Hulk During World War Hulk
Marvel’s 2007 crossover World War Hulk definitely lived up to its name. The main series and the spin-off had Hulk wage war against anyone who stood between him and the revenge against the Illuminati and that included most of the Marvel Universe.
Sadly the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and the X-Men all had to face the wrath of Hulk when he was at his angriest and strongest. But not every hero opposed Hulk. Here are some who sided with him, but for a reason:
1. Amadeus Cho
Amadeus has established himself as one of Bruce Banner’s strongest allies and even went on to become a Hulk himself. When he learned that Illuminati exiled the Hulk, Cho was the only person on Earth who believed that Hulk wasn’t a killer and could be reasoned when. Cho even brought the Renegades together, which helped to minimize the collateral damage in Manhattan during the war. Cho wasn’t able to convince him to abandon his grudge against the Illuminati in exchange for sanctuary.
2. Angel
While the X-Men team fought the Hulk, one of the team members was on his side. Cho had recruited Angel and Hercules since they were a part of The Champions. Angel joined Cho’s cause because of monetary reasons. Cho knew his funds would be frozen if Angel helped Hulk and that’s why Cho hacked his accounts in advance and used them to buy the team an amphibious flyer as transport. Angel tried to be the voice of reason that Hulk was seeking justice and not vengeance.
3. Hercules
Hercules wanted to make amends with the Hulk as he sympathized with Hulk’s rage over the death of his wife Caiera the Oldstrong. He had also faced a similar experience in Ancient Greece that led to his Twelve Labors. After Hulk lost the war, Hercules encouraged Angel to take S.H.I.E.L.D.’s amnesty deal. He sided with Hulk over the lie that Illuminati was responsible for Caiera’s death.
4. Namora
Namora was the only member of the renegades without a personal connection to the Hulk. She met the team by chance when they were on the way to Atlantis to seek Namor’s assistance. Hulk’s plight resonated with Namora personally. She was also abandoned by her friends after being trapped in suspended animation for 5 decades. She appreciated Hulk and those who stood by him.
