An incident took place on March 27, 2022, at the 94th Academy Awards ceremony where Will Smith walked up on the stage and slapped comedian, Chris Rock. The comedian was performing at the awards and while doing so, he cracked a few jokes about celebrities, one of which included Will Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

The comedian’s attempt at humor did not sit quite well with the actor and he ended up slapping Chris Rock in anger. The incident left everyone shocked, both the people present at the event and fans who got to know about it later on. On a recent show, Chris Rock was asked about the incident and it appears that the comedian is still not over what had happened even after months have passed.

After the incident took place, Will Smith decided to offer an apology for the situation. The actor wrote on social media, “I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.” After the Aladdin actor put this on social media, he received backlash for not apologizing directly to the comedian.

The actor did justify himself by posting a video on his YouTube channel and apologized for the incident once again. “I reached out to Chris, and the message that came back is he’s not ready to talk, but when he is, he will reach out. I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable, and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.” He stressed the fact that Chris Rock does not want to talk about it at the moment but he had tried to make amends from his side.

According to Daily Mail, Dave Chappelle inquired Chris Rock about the incident that took place at the awards.  “Did that s–t hurt?” Dave Chappelle had asked him during a recent sold-out show at Liverpool’s M&S Arena. To this Chris Rock responded with, “Goddamn right … the motherf–ker hit me over a bulls–t joke, the nicest joke I ever told.” He claimed that the actor hit him for no reason as it was the nicest joke he ever told.

The comedian had more to say about the incident and even called Will Smith an “ugly” person who impersonated himself as a goody two shoes for years. “Will did the impression of a perfect person for 30 years, and he ripped his mask off and showed us he was as ugly as the rest of us. Whatever the consequences are … I hope he doesn’t put his mask back on again and lets his real face breathe. I see myself in both men.”

He told Dave Chappelle. It appears that Chris Rock is still bound by the incident, as in another recent show, he made an inappropriate joke referring to the event that transpired at the awards. The comedian joked that his returning to host Oscars 2023 would be the same as Nicole Brown Simpson revisiting the restaurant she dined at before being murdered.
