Tom Brady, quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League, and Brazilian model Gisele Bündchen, are making headlines because they have been living apart in recent weeks. The couple began dating in December 2006 and married on February 9, 2009, during an intimate Catholic ceremony. They have two kids together: a son born in December 2009 and a daughter born in December 2012.

It appears that things have gotten quite bitter between the couple, with many reports claiming they are splitting up and seeking a divorce. Also, Brady may face financial trouble after a final divorce.

While the separation of Tom Brady, 45, and Gisele Bündchen, 42, seems imminent, there are many doubts regarding what will happen to their wealth, which is why both parties are reportedly hiring divorce lawyers. In addition, even though Brady and Bündchen have not officially separated, there has been speculation that they are open to maintaining joint custody over their children.

Sources say Gisele Bündchen has contacted a divorce lawyer, but this is far from the first time media speculation has surrounded their possible separation. Also, reports stated that Brady hired his own attorney after Bündchen made the first move.

According to the reports, the couple had a fight over TB12’s decision to return for his third season with the Buccaneers after regretting his retirement announcement last offseason.

The possibility of Brady and Gisele Bündchen splitting or divorcing has many wondering what this would mean for their finances.

Nevertheless, Karen Jeary, an associate solicitor at law firm Mayo Wynne Baxter specializing in divorce matters, told Newsweek in an exclusive interview that Brady, however, is likely to be owed a large amount of money by his wife, according to Marca.

Continuing the interview, Jeary said,

“Given the extent of Tom’s estimated wealth, $400 million, and that under U.S. matrimonial law the starting point for the division of matrimonial assets is 50/50, hopefully, Tom had the foresight to enter into a prenuptial agreement with Gisele to protect, in so far as possible, his pre-acquired wealth,”

Assuming this analysis is accurate and Brady’s estimated wealth is correct, Brady could be liable for around $200 million for divorce alimony to his wife.

Did Tom Brady And Gisele Bündchen Sign A Prenuptial Agreement?

Many wonders if Brady and Bündchen signed a prenuptial agreement ahead of a possible divorce. The fact that Bündchen and Brady are independently wealthy is a strong indication they had a prenup agreement when they were married in 2009.

According to an insider close to Bündchen, “The current prenup is pretty ironclad and lists how everything will be divided should they break up, but it needs to be updated, and it can be if both parties agree.”

If this source is accurate, it indicates the couple signed a prenuptial agreement before getting married. It would be surprising if Brady and Bündchen didn’t sign a prenuptial agreement because of their high net worth.
