Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were THE couple in their time, and their separation was as shocking as it could get. Jennifer Aniston was the 90’s sweetheart and everyone antagonized Angelina Jolie to at least some extent, accusing her of causing the split. The man got the freeway of course, as was unfairly evident.
However, it seems like the internet is still not done with a debacle that took place about 2 decades ago, and in the latest narrative as well, Brad Pitt’s infidelity is not the issue. Again, people seem to think that Angelina Jolie is to blame, solely…
What if Angelina Jolie hadn’t worn that dress?
Well, not solely, it’s Jolie and… a dress. If one were looking for the top 10 stupidest excuses for a breakup, this one has got a spot covered.
“We would like to announce that after seven years together we have decided to formally separate.”
While it is obviously hard to pinpoint the exact moment or the exact occurrence that tipped the domino trail, or whether it was in fact, one moment and not a series of collated events, some experts think they’ve got it. An old clip from a 2019 episode of the OTT show Styling Hollywood, has been suddenly going viral all over the internet (clearly the obsession is still alive). The video shows Hollywood stylist, Irene Albright showing ‘The Affair Dress’ that, when worn by Angelina Jolie, led to the end of a supposedly happy marriage, to Jason Bolden, another stylist.
Albright recalled a report by W Magazine that stated that when the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider actor wore this dress for a magazine photoshoot with Pitt, it initiated their affair.
As per a report by The Sun:
“While it can’t be proved that this dress was partly responsible for the marriage breakdown, it does fall within the timeline of the marital woes.”
The latent misogyny in not holding Brad Pitt accountable
While the dress being a primary reason is simply conjecture and gossip, an affair did ensue between Jolie and Pitt. They dated, had kids, adopted some, and got hitched in 2014, only to announce their split 2 years later, to the shock of everyone in Hollywood and otherwise.
It is all fun and games to assume that a certain look or a certain revealing outfit can lead to infidelity. But, the whole discourse highlights the general misogyny that antagonizes a woman for being a home-wrecker but won’t hold the man accountable for being disloyal.
