How James Bond: Casino Royale Is A Masterpiece

The James Bond franchise is attributed to changing the landscape of cinema in several ways. In the late 90s, James Bond was a gadget-heavy character and it seemed as if he were living in a fantastical world. He almost had a sci-fi feel to him, but then Casino Royale came out, and Daniel Craig’s Bond brought the franchise into realism. With his first outing in Casino Royale, Daniel Craig took over from Pierce Brosnan and gave birth to a dark and gritty character who wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty on screen. Fans agree that Daniel Craig ended his run as Bond by giving us his best performance yet with the end credits ticking away at No Time To Die.

That being said, these are the three reasons why Casino Royale is a masterpiece –

It Is The Cornerstone Of Action Films

Casino Royale takes the failing Bond franchise and revives it. One thing that the movie does well is moving away from gadgets and focusing on action and mystery. Moviegoers consider this film to be a masterpiece. Some even said that it encapsulates the character of James Bond, with great action sequences and witty dialogue. With that being said, it is the most cohesive of all Craig’s Bond movies.

Craig Brought A New Edge To The Character

While Bond fans loved the old films, there’s no transition in many of the films that really humanized James Bond. This meant that despite being a protagonist, he didn’t grow as much as people hoped he would. Casino Royale changed everything because it showed how emotionally deep the character could go and how his compassion for others can sometimes outweigh his own occupational necessities for murdering those who get in his way.

It Was More Nuanced

If there’s one thing that James Bond films often lack, it’s nuance. Roger Moore’s 007 days had all the double entendres and silly jokes but then we had even more outrageously ludicrous plots with Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig movies. A lot of people didn’t think this was the case until Casino Royale came along.

It is a bona fide classic because it took itself more seriously than ever where there were no crazy gimmicks or special effects. This is what made Casino Royale good. It had cinematic nuance from beginning to end with strong performances from all involved and an intense storyline unlike anything seen before in a James Bond film.
