The director for She-Hulk, Kat Coiro went on to reveal how she became Marvel Studios’ final choice for the forthcoming action-comedy series.

“I’m a huge fan of the MCU [Marvel Cinematic Universe], and I was actually a giant fan of the She-Hulk comics, so when I heard they were making it, I went full-court press and really sold myself as the person to bring this story to life,” Coiro revealed to Collider.

When the plans for a She-Hulk series were announced by Marvel in 2019, Coiro started a big campaign, championing herself as a candidate to direct the series. However, as She-Hulk‘s structure totally differs from all Marvel/Disney+ TV shows, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige took his own time to find the right match to helm the anticipated series.

As per Marvel Boss Kevin Feige, She-Hulk will be featuring an unseen genre within the MCU. WandaVision had an unlikely sitcom style to it, Hawkeye‘s action or Loki‘s time-bending theme, She-Hulk is going to be a half-hour legal comedy, which will mark the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s foray into TV’s procedural realm. Keeping aside the new storytelling venture, Coiro had earlier confirmed Marvel Studios has a splendid creative grip on the unique series. “Marvel is one of the most collaborative environments in the world,” she stated. “Even though he’s producing so many things, Kevin [Feige], and Lou [D’Esposito] and Victoria [Alonso] and Brad [Winderbaum], have such a hand in everything.”

In various meetings with Marvel, Coiro attempted to showcase her talents as a perfect fit for She-Hulk‘s style. Finally, back in 2020 September, Coiro has had some real passion for the original She-Hulk comics and had previous experience with the character-driven comedies that came to her as the directing role. “The process was really about getting on the same page and making sure that we were like-minded,” Coiro noted. “It’s never about anybody’s ego. It’s about bringing these stories to life. It was a long process, but those processes to get a job to become very easy when you’re really passionate about the material, which I was in the case of that one.”

An award-winning filmmaker, Coiro’s credits include Jennifer Lopez’s comedy movie Marry Me and old episodes of Shameless and Dead To Me. Her portrayal as She-Hulk‘s director will mark her debut in the MCU. Anu Valia, yet another novice in MCU with some notable experience in television, will helm She-Hulk‘s remaining installments.

The She-Hulk series will be a 10-episode one that follows lawyer Jennifer Walters, who ends up transforming into a huge green-skinned superhero after she received a blood transfusion from Bruce Banner, who is her cousin. Actor Tatiana Maslany will be helming the titular role and will also be joined by Marvel alumni Mark Ruffalo as Hulk and Tim Roth will return as Abomination from The Incredible Hulk.

She-Hulk will be debuting sometime in 2022 on Disney+.
