After almost a decade of How To Train Your Dragon films, the recently released The Hidden World has fans saying goodbye to the animation trilogy. However, with all the good vibes and major dollar signs already sent to the movie’s way, is it really the end?

How To Train Your Dragon writer and director Dean DeBlois was able to see his vision through. He had always planned the series to be a trilogy to create and focused satisfying trilogy from its beginning till end. However, keeping in mind how successful and beloved the films are, the chances of them coming back are quite likely. While DeBlois is planning to end it up with The Hidden World, here’s what he said recently:

“I think if DreamWorks decided to open it up at some point. I hope it would be a different timeline, different characters with the Hiccup/Toothless story remained intact.”

You have it right there! DeBlois feels extremely solid about leaving How To Train Your Dragon franchise but can imagine the world opening in a different time, where the characters get explored. During a recent interview with DeBlois in Glendale, he revealed what he wanted to deliver with the final ending.

A thoughtful ending is always nice to have and How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. After selling out so many screenings, many fans walked out of the theaters with tears of bittersweet joy, thanks to the film’s conclusion.

You’d feel it’s wise not to play with a good ending but there’s the Toy Story franchise too. Pixar hasn’t mind to continue the franchise over the years. Messing with a good ending can be sacred, which is why DeBlois’ idea to have the How To Train Your Dragon to continue by exploring a different world could be a clever approach. Star Trek and Star Wars have done it too and we hope it happens again.

The movie is expected to win the weekend. Bring your tissues, the final installment of the trilogy may make you cry.
