Iggy Azalea has consistently made headlines for her well-known songs, such as Problem, but she also makes headlines for her conflicts. Just like her retiring news, the rapper was embroiled in a scandal over her song I Am the Stripclub after being accused of blackfishing. Although many assumed that her abrupt departure from the business was connected to this incident the rapper explained her decision at the time she made it. Blackfishing, or dressing up like a person of color, is a behavior frowned upon. A person may blackfish to attract attention, get money, or imitate Black people and their culture.
Iggy Azalea sells her music career for 8 figure money
The 32-year-old Black Widow star clarified some misunderstandings about what it truly means for her as an artist in her social media response to a post regarding the supposed sale of her song masters. The Problem hitmaker said that she does not want to work for another day in her life that’s why she is selling all her work for eight figures. When a fan said “I just hope she doesn’t end up like Taylor [Swift].
She replied to that fan that “Taylor did not profit from that sale. I sold a portion of my catalog to who I wanted, for an amount that means I don’t have to work another day in my life.” She also added that “I love y’all down but the masters conversation is a little beyond most of your understanding of business.”
The rapper’s comeback was in August on the same platform where she stated that she never wanted to come back. She said that there was a lot of negative energy in the music industry which forced her to take her step down but now she is ready to fight the negative energy.
She said that “I’m coming back. Cry about it. A year ago I was willing to walk away from music because I was tired of the negative energy it attracted. But what I’ve learned is that even when I’m minding my business, y’all gonna be negative AND nosey.” She also added that “So if I can’t have peace, neither can you. I’m coming back. Cry about it.” In her career she always has been surrounded with controversies.
Iggy Azalea’s Controversy for her song I am the Stripclub
Back in July 2021, the rapper became embroiled in a scandal over her song I Am the Stripclub, which attracted a lot of criticism from listeners amid rumors that she had tried to darken her skin tone. The singer, however, refuted all of the allegations that were circulated about her, saying that the only way she changed how she looked was by switching out her blonde hair for a dark brown wig.
She wrote on Twitter at that time, “I can’t care about something that ridiculous and baseless. I’m wearing a shade 6 in Armani foundation, it’s the same shade I’ve worn for the last 3 years.” She paused her music career after the controversy however the rapper did not address the backlash directly.
