Actor George Clooney recently appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show and talked about his marriage proposal to his wife, Amal Clooney. The actor revealed that his wife thought the 7-carat diamond ring she grabbed belonged to one of his ex-girlfriends. George Clooney and Amal Clooney got married in 2014 and share twins, Ella and Alexander. The actor explained the whole disaster to the host, Drew Barrymore, but in the end, Amal Clooney obviously said yes. The actor also explained the story of how the two met through his agent.
George Clooney’s disastrous marriage proposal
Actor George Clooney told Drew Barrymore that his marriage proposal to his wife, Amal Clooney, was a total “disaster.” His wife thought the 7-carat diamond ring he proposed to her with belonged to one of his ex-girlfriends. He said,
“It was a disaster, I planned it out, I planned the whole thing out. I’ve got the ring in a little drawer behind her, I’ve made dinner and we had only been dating for about six months.”
The actor originally planned to have his wife grab something from the drawer, where the ring was located. However, something unexpected took place.

Amal Clooney thought it was an old ring
The actor further revealed that when his wife grabbed the ring, she seemed confused as she thought the ring belonged to one of his ex-girlfriends. The actor explained the moment,
“And she looks at it and she’s like, ‘Uh there’s a ring in there.’ Like somebody left a ring there years ago. And I’m like on my knee….”
After 20 minutes of explaining, his wife finally said yes and they got married in Italy five months after the incident in presence of their family and friends.

George Clooney also talked about how he “fell in love” with his wife
Later in the show, the actor explained he met his wife through his agent,
“The funniest thing is Bryan Lourd, my agent, called me, he had just met Amal at some other thing, and she was like, ‘Yeah, I am going to go to Como with a friend of mine,'” added, “He called me up, and he said, ‘There’s a girl coming to your house that you are going to marry.'”
The actor said he did not believe his agent but it turns out he really enjoyed spending time with her, “I was like, ‘You’re an idiot. You know that’s not going to happen.’ And then in comes Amal, and we stayed up all night talking, and I started writing her a bunch of letters.” The Ocean’s Eleven star revealed they still write physical letters to each other.
