“I think she knew. She did a number on me”: Victoria Beckham Intentionally Put Mel B in Embarrassing Spot With Prince William
Mel B had been a survivor of an abusive marriage. She got married to Stephen Belafonte in 2007 and had a long, ten-year marriage with him. The couple got divorced in 2017 on the grounds of an abusive relationship. Her ex-husband denied the allegations, but the star suffered from PTSD. The former couple has one daughter from their marriage, Madison Brown.
The singer visited Buckingham Palace to receive an award. She ran into Prince William there and recounted their embarrassing encounter. She even remembered breaking the royal protocol with her not-so-impressive dress for the ceremony. The singer blamed her friend and designer Victoria Beckham for the same.
Mel B had an embarrassing encounter with Prince William
The singer was awarded an MBE – Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2022. To receive that, she visited Buckingham Palace. The award was presented by Prince William, and the 47-year-old’s attire made the conversation awkward. Mel B appeared on Live With Kelly and Ryan on Wednesday, January 18. There, she described how awkward it was to meet the prince for the first time.
The Spice Girls member received an award for her work in raising awareness of domestic abuse as the patron of Women’s Aid, an organization founded in England that works to prevent violence against women and children. She visited the palace to receive the same, wearing provocative clothing.
The red midi dress hugged her figure perfectly, and she paired it with glossy Christian Louboutin pumps. The dress had an opening below the neckline and cap sleeves. The musician had no idea that the medal goes in the same place as her fancy neckline.
When she went to collect the award from the Prince of Wales the moment became embarrassing with her cleavage-showing dress.
She said, “It was quite embarrassing, actually, because I didn’t realize the medal actually goes here on your chest.” She was accompanied by her mom for the special event, and her dress was designed by her friend Victoria Beckham.
The U.K. native added, “Victoria [Beckham] designed my dress, mine and my mom’s dress for the occasion. And she put a big slit right there. I was like, ‘Oh, sorry.”
Former America’s Got Talent judge praised her designer friend for the dress and joked about her intentionally putting a slit in the exact spot. She said, “I think she knew. She did a number on me.”
The Dancing With the Stars alum also shared another moment she had with the royal. When she went to collect the award, the prince asked her about being there for Spice Girl, and the star told him about her contribution to women’s aid. “He was like, ‘Oh my god, really? So tell me more about it,’ and I was like, ‘There’s a whole queue of people waiting to get their MB, I don’t think it’s time for a chat right now,” she quipped.
The pop star has been the victim of domestic abuse and has been working with Women’s Aid to increase awareness. In her 2018 memoir, Brutally Honest, she spoke about being physically, sexually, verbally, and financially abused by her ex-husband.
Mel B participated in a competitive show
To deal with the trauma from her marriage to Stephen Belafonte, Brown became one of the participants in a reality show. The show Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test gets celebrities from various genres, and they are tested based on their mental, physical, and emotional resilience. This show’s motive is to reveal the participants’ most authentic selves.
The singer made the decision to participate in the show to overcome the abuse she faced in her 10-year-long marriage. The first episode of the show aired on January 4th and there the actor expressed her sentiments regarding her prior relationship. She was even attentive during the Dive challenge and completed it successfully. Her performance showed the effort she is putting into the show. Celebrities like Jamie Lynn Spears, Kendra Moore, etc. are participants in the show.
