Gerard Piqué and Shakira have went their separate ways after being together for many years. The two separated in 2022 after news of the football player cheating on her with a mystery girl rocked their coupling. That is how their relationship met a tragic end.
Notwithstanding how it all ended, they had one of the best starts to a relationship ever. The story goes way back, and is, unsurprisingly, very cute. And it all started with the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Gerard Piqué and Shakira knew that they wanted to be together ever since first meeting
Gerard Piqué and Shakira saw each other for the first time while shooting of the song Waka Waka for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. And they both knew it was love at first sight. Shakira would later go on to reveal what a profound impact meeting the 35-year-old would have on her. She said,
“I think, if you can prove the existence of God, it can only be proven through love. I even had lost my faith for a while. I was becoming an agnostic.”
Add to the fact that Shakira had been always religious.
How Shakira overcame the hard phase?
The Hips Don’t Lie singer felt alienated from the lord. She continued, “It was really hard for a few years.” But things changed for Shakira soon enough. And who was the catalyst? Who else but the man of her dreams – Gerard Piqué. She said,
“It sounds so corny — I was not feeling the love like it was supposed to be, I started to think that there was no God. And suddenly I meet Gerard and the sun comes out.”
A shame her God seems to have deserted her again.
Gerard Piqué was looking for chances to talk to Shakira
Gerard Pique was no different. The first time they met, the Barcelona player was smitten by her beauty. And he knew he wanted to talk to her. He disclosed,
“The first time I met Shakira was in Madrid when we were filming the video for Waka Waka before the 2010 World Cup and I asked for her number.”
That could have been their last meeting. But they were meant to be. Piqué texted her to ask how the weather in South Africa was, expecting a one-lined response. But what he got in return was a full blown explanation in a paragraph. Their texting countinued from there onwards. When Piqué heard that the next chance they would get is in the World Cup final, he knew he had to reach the final it it meant a chance to see her.
Unfortunately, it has all gone downhill now.
