July 21 was the birth anniversary of our very own Captain John Keating, Robin Williams himself. The reminiscence of the circumstances of his death always leaves us with a pang and the heartfelt wish that Williams’ son, Zak Williams gave him this year has the entire internet teary-eyed. Had the actor been alive, it would’ve been his 71st birthday, but he left us too soon.

The heartfelt post remembering Robin Williams

To remember his late father on his 71st birthday, 39-year-old Zak Williams posted a picture of the elder Williams on Instagram. The photo featured the Captain sporting a cycling jersey and blue helmet, with a yellow bike in his hand and a garage door behind him.

Zak Williams captioned the post:

“Happy 71st Birthday Dad! I’ll be remembering you today as you would want to be remembered, in spandex. Miss you and love you always!”

The last known picture of Williams before he took his life

8 years ago, on an August evening, the news of Williams’ suicide broke out. The Dead Poets Society actor was 63 as of August 11, 2014, when he took his own life. He was fighting Lewy body dementia, the second-most common type of progressive dementia after Alzheimer’s disease, at the time of his death.

Son Zak Williams paid a befitting birthday tribute to his father

Zak Williams, the eldest Williams son, is a mental-health advocate. In July 2021, he talked about his father’s discomfort and frustration before his death owing to the fact that the Good Will Hunting actor was misdiagnosed with Parkinson’s disease on The Genius Life podcast.

“What he was going through didn’t match one to one [with what] many Parkinson’s patients experience. So I think that was hard for him.

I couldn’t help but feel beyond empathy. I couldn’t help but feel frustrated for him. It can be really isolating even when you’re with family and loved ones.”

Zak Williams remembered his father on his death anniversary last year

On his last death anniversary, Williams’ son posted a heartfelt remembrance for his dad on Twitter. The post was a picture of the elder Williams along with the caption:

“Dad, seven years ago today you passed on. The joy and inspiration you brought to the world carries on in your legacy and in your family, friends, and fans you so loved. You lived to bring laughter and to help others. I will be celebrating your memory today. Love you forever.”

Captain, you’ll always be in our hearts.
